Dead Island 2 Could Finally Be Re-Revealed This Year

When it comes to running jokes in gaming, the delay/development hell is a classic and there are perhaps no bigger examples of this than Deep Silver's Dead Island 2.

The sequel to both Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, Dead Island 2 was announced in 2014 but had completely disappeared from the world of video games in the nearly eight years following its initial trailer. The only glimpses fans have gotten since then are small promises of "it's coming" and an absolutely hilarious trailer mocking the title from Goat Simulator 3.

This might all change in 2022. Here's what we know.

Dead Island 2 Could Return in 2022.

This report comes from industry leaker Tom Henderson in an article he wrote for website TryHardGuides. In it, he claims that sources with knowledge about the much-delayed game have said that the title is likely making its comeback later in 2022 with a brand new re-reveal. While an exact date later in the year was not provided to Henderson, the source did mention that The Game Awards would "make a lot of sense" suggesting a reveal in early December 2022.

The new title is set to be more focused on cooperative play than prior entries, with multiple play sessions by the current development team, Dambuster focusing on it over single-player. The cast of Dead Island 2 also appears to be completely new with approximately five or six characters currently set to be included though this might change before release.

Speaking of its release, Deep Silver and its parent company Embracer Group suggested in a financial call that they expect the game to be released in the "next financial year", suggesting that the release would arrive by Friday, 31st March 2023. The title is still likely to release on PS4, Xbox One and PC as originally planned though next-gen versions could also be in the works.
