MLB The Show 22 reveals online competitive co-op

MLB The Show 22 was recently confirmed, and we're finally getting new reveals focused on game modes and new features hitting this year's game.

Coach is back in all his puppet glory, along with Shohei Ohtani, and this first video reveals a new online competitive co-op mode.

As explained in the video, this new online competitive co-op feature will allow you to play 2v2 or 3v3 with real-life teams, likely meaning this is available for standard exhibition games.

Unfortunately, they haven't clarified in this reveal whether or not co-op will be available outside of competitive modes in a more casual environment.

Diamond Dynasty co-op will have combined collections

However, it also appears this new feature has been integrated into Diamond Dynasty, and that means players will be able to team up in that game mode for the first time ever.

In mentioning Diamond Dynasty, the video also confirmed a huge piece of the puzzle that could make co-op even more fascinating in that game mode.

Diamond Dynasty with co-op will now have combined collections, and as a result you should be able to build an epic lineup of players from both you and your partner's collections.

With the competitive angle definitely playing a role, we expect that Sony San Diego will introduce more aspects including competitive invitationals and keeping an eSports element to this new co-op game mode.

While there's no word on it, one of the questions that this addition will bring up actually has to do with another game mode: Franchise.

Franchise Mode delivers in several ways for the MLB The Show franchise, but a proper online connected franchise has been one of the game mode's glaring flaws in recent years, despite the fact that it does several other things better than most other sports titles.

Feature Reveal streams have been confirmed to return this week and will follow on a weekly basis until the game is launched, but we don't yet know which game modes will be the focus first.
