Madden 23 Face of the Franchise Beginner's Guide
While recent years started players as a rookie, Madden 23 Face of the Franchise has turned things upside down this year by starting in year five of your NFL career.
Rather than kicking things off with the College Football Playoff, Madden 23 Face of the Franchise begins with your player securing a 1-year "prove it" deal.

You'll chart your path towards the 99 Club and several season accolades, but knowing where you're going is often easier than knowing how to get started.
In our Madden 23 Face of the Franchise Beginner's Guide, we'll break things down so your career mode get rolling properly.
Best Positions, Build & Physique
One of the most important things to know as you're creating your player for Madden 23 Face of the Franchise is that the positions offer very different experiences.
We've found that Running Back can be the easiest position to take on, especially if you're on a team with a highly rated offensive line.
Quarterback is as fun as it always has been, wide receiver offers a different challenge with the route running focus, and defense can be the most difficult if you're not familiar with the roles of those positions.
Bruisers have trouble maximizing Speed while Agile players won't have the same max rating in Break Tackle, so consider details like this and choose a physique that fits your play style and position.
Finally, don't be afraid to change your physique, reset your skills and abilities, and test out a different configuration until you find the build that's right for you.
How to choose the right FOTF team
It can be easy to be distracted by details like overall contract value or your Cred and Rep bonuses, but those are relatively unimportant in team selection.
The differences in those bonuses don't make a massive impact throughout the career, and you're much better off picking a team you like that has the right combination of players to help you excel.
Don't bother with fears of starting, as it seems relatively automatic regardless of your rating, but the ratings of your teammates can be critical.
Simply choosing the team you like the most is not a bad course of action, but there are a few guidelines to keep in mind if you want to set your player up for success.
- Running Back: Pick a team with a highly rated offensive line
- Quarterback: Pick a team with highly rated offensive weapons
- Wide Reciever: Pick a team with an accurate highly rated quarterback
- Linebacker: Pick a team with a highly rated defensive line
- Cornerback: Pick a team with a highly rated secondary
We would also like to note that you cannot request a trade, so be careful when re-signing and choosing longer contracts as you won't be able to choose a new team until your current contract expires.
Side Activities & Setting Goals
Always make sure to set your Side Activities each week before heading into the action, and you'll generally want to prioritize picking anything that boosts Rep.
The temporary ratings boost can be slightly beneficial, especially if you're playing on higher difficulties, but often it'll still be your upgrades and on-field play which matter most.
While the Rep reward for On-Field Drills isn't massive, these can be extremely valuable as you're learning the ins and outs of your position.
You'll also be faced with setting weekly and seasonal goals, and how conservative you make these picks should depend on your own in-game skill.
If you're playing as a Running Back on a low difficulty and are very good at it, you can plow through even the most difficult goals in just a few short games.
If you're ever struggling to hit those goals and want the bonuses, increase the length of quarters in each game as the required stats don't scale based on game length.
Upgrade Skills to reach the 99 Club
Between games, you want to be sure to check on your current Skills and Abilities and spend any newly earned points.
Every position and physique combination has a path to a 99 OVR rating, often multiple, and these also lead to different abilities.
Don't ever worry about saving things or not spending too fast, as you'll be able to reset and respec at any point with your Madden 23 Face of the Franchise build.
In our experience it took about three season to reach 99 OVR, but your own level of success game to game could alter that timeline.
When you do finally max things out, you'll enter the 99 Club and be rewarded with a new cutscene highlighting your accomplishment.
