The first thing every player wants to do when they start a
new save on Football Manager is jump head-long into the transfer market and
splash the cash around.
After all, nothing says “I’m the new man in charge” like making a few changes to the squad and bringing in the kind of players that can run the tactical system you want to employ.

However, making
drastic changes can be a very expensive process, especially if you have
rather discerning taste.
One way to minimise the
damage to your transfer budget is to look at the players that
teams are actively trying to get rid of.
The transfer list is an excellent way of finding a cheap bargain, so who will be on the market when you start your save?
Douglas Costa, Juventus
Position: M/AM (RL)
Age: 28
Value: £60m
Wage: £190k
The rapid winger is one Juventus, or Zebre as they are in FM20, are looking to get rid of. With his 18 dribbling, 18 acceleration, and 18 technique he is the ideal old school pacey wide man.

If you like to play
counter-attacking football with width then Costa is your man, however it
comes at a cost. Juventus are asking for £59 million, and with a wage
of £190k he will eat into that side of your finances too. Still, if it’s the
missing piece of your puzzle it is a price worth paying.
James Rodriguez, Real Madrid
Position: M/AM (RLC)
Age: 27
Value: £47.5m
Wage: £225k
James Rodriguez
never really settled in at Real Madrid, coming in as the 2014 World Cup
hero and struggling in a team of galacticos.
However, with 19 first touch, 19 vision, 18 flair, and 18 technique, James is a
superlative creative player that can unlock a defence.
With peak years ahead of
him and an asking price of £45.5 million James is a good option
for a top team looking to make the next step, however his wage of
£225k may price him out of a lot of clubs.
Federico Bernardeschi, Juventus
Position: M (R), AM (RLC)
Age: 25
Value: £41m
Wage: £130k
The balanced wide man is another that Juventus are looking to move on from. At just 25 there is plenty of career left ahead of Federico Bernardeschi, making him a solid investment. With 17 determination, 17 flair, 17 technique, and 16 work rate you will get more without the ball from Bernardeschi than you will others.

Thanks to his age,
Juventus are asking for a rather massive £51 million, but a strong
negotiator can get that down. His wage is a more
reasonable £130k so he will fit into most budgets, and at that age
he will lock down your right wing spot for a while.
Juan Cuadrado, Juventus
Position: D/WB/M/AM (R)
Age: 31
Value: £27m
Wage: £110k
Yet another wide man that Juve want rid of! At 31, there is
less time ahead of Juan Cuadrado than the others, but with his ability to play
anywhere down the right and his
continued athletic prowess (18 acceleration, 17 pace, 16 agility) he is certainly
a useful player to any side.
Juventus are after the
full £27 million for him, but given his age Cuadrado is best off
as a loan signing if you can stomach the £110k wage bill
for him, otherwise you’ll only be back on the transfer market in a season or
two.
Marcos Rojo, Man United
Position: D (LC)
Age: 29
Value: £20.5m
Wage: £110k
Finally we get to a defender. After spending a club record £80 million on Harry Maguire it’s no surprise that Man United are trying to off-load Marcos Rojo. The 29 year old Argentine defender is a solid player, with 18 bravery, 17 aggression, and 16 tackling he can get stuck in and win the ball.

Man United are asking for £18.5 million, making Rojo a very reasonable buy if
you need some help at the back. He can play both centre back and left back,
making him a useful piece of any squad. His £110k wage is a bit high,
but if you have the space then he is a very prudent signing for
most clubs.
