FIFA 22: David Villa added to FUT code but will he be an Icon or FUT Hero?

David Villa last featured in Ultimate Team two years ago back in FIFA 20, but it looks like he could be returning very soon.

So, we're taking a detailed look at whether the Spaniard will arrive as a FUT Hero or an Icon in Ultimate Team.

The return of Villa

Former Barcelona and Spain international footballer David Villa has been added to the FIFA 22 Ultimate Team code.

However, Villa has been added to the code as a Tifo and not as a FIFA card.

Having said this, there is good reason to believe that a David Villa card will follow soon, as it doesn't make sense for EA to release a Tifo without a card for that player in the game.

So, this begs the question, will David Villa be added as an Icon or FUT Hero in Ultimate Team?

Barca Hero

FUT Heroes are new items in FIFA 22 that represent the unforgettable moments that turned the individual players into fan favourites.

FUT Heroes have unique league-specific chemistry which is tied to their specific hero moment, providing a green Club link to any player within the same league as well as the usual nation link.

BIG GAME PLAYER - Villa always produced in the big moments

We'd love to Villa re-enter the game as the highest-rated FUT Hero in FIFA 22.

David Villa’s beautiful goal for Barcelona in their 2011 Champions League final win against Manchester United is the Spaniard's standout moment, but Villa played at a world-class level for several years.

Spanish Legend

FIFA leaker discovery_fut on Twitter stated the following with regards to the rumoured news of Villa making his way into Ultimate Team as a Hero card:

“According to our source, the Spanish striker could be present in the roster of #FIFA22 #icons.
“For David Villa, we reserve the right to make a mistake, for this reason, we decided to treat the news as a rumour.”

So, it looks like Villa could arrive as an ICON card... and rightly so!

LIVING LEGEND - Villa is one of Spain's all time greats

The former Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Valencia and New York City FC player racked up 338 goals and 78 assists in his illustrious career for both club and country.

The Spaniard played a key role in three La Liga winning teams for both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona between 2010 and 2014 and also won the UEFA Champions League with Barca in 2011.

Villa also experienced ultimate international success, winning both the World Cup in 2010 and the Euros in 2008, where he was the top scorer at the tournament.
