Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut is only a handful of weeks away, but that doesn't mean Sucker Punch Productions are taking a break. Earlier today, they have announced that Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, the popular multiplayer mode that was released for Ghost of Tsushima, is coming out as a standalone release. Here's everything you need to know about what this means for the future of Legends.
When does Ghost of Tsushima: Legends come out?
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is due to be released as a standalone title on September 3rd, just two weeks after the release of Ghost of Tsushima Director's cut.
It's going to be available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles and feature all the content that was originally released with Ghost of Tsushima: Legends alongside Rivals, a new competitive experience, and the Gear Mastery System.
Both of these new features will be added to the game in an update released on August 20th, the same date as the release of Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut. If you already own Ghost of Tsushima or Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, you will get access to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends and this content at no additional cost.
It isn't going to be free, though...
Sadly, though, if you don't own Ghost of Tsushima or Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut... You're going to need to pay for the standalone version of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is going to set you back $19.99 / £15.99 and, interestingly, will be the same price on both PS4 and PS5. If you want to upgrade to Ghost of Tsushima's full game once you've bought Legends, you will be able to do so at a discounted price.
" For players who purchase the standalone release of Legends, if you decide you want to check out the rest of Ghost of Tsushima, you’ll be able to upgrade to Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut at any time for $40 / €50 /£44 (PS4) or $50 / €60 / £54 (PS5)."
But, that doesn't mean there isn't anything new coming
Following the August 20th update to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, which will introduce Rivals and the Gear Mastery System, there's going to be a few more updates over the next couple of months.
A new piece of content will be added to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends each week from September 10th until October 1st. This means we should be getting at least another four pieces of content from Sucker Punch Productions. It isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it's better than nothing!
" ... we’ll be adding a new piece of content each week from September 10 through October 1, including an additional Rivals map, new Survival maps inspired by Iki Island and Iyo’s realm, and Trials of Iyo, a new harder-difficulty version of last year’s Raid that offers challenges in bite-sized chunks, and offers a new set of online leaderboards."
Iki Island is going to feature heavily in the expanded content available for Ghost of Tsushima's Director's Cut release. This could be a great way to try out the new locale for less.
