Here's everything we know so far about the WWE 2K22 Showcase featuring Rey Mysterio and what kinds of content it could bring to the game.

WWE 2K22 Showcase: Rey Mysterio takes the spotlight this year

For several years now, we've seen a 2K Showcase mode in their WWE 2K series turn the focus on one superstar's legendary career.

We've now finally learned that the WWE 2K22 Showcase will be fixated upon Rey Mysterio, and that means we could see three decades worth of classic content enter the game.

PREVIEW: This is just one version of Mysterio we could see in the game

Despite being just 47 years old, Rey Mysterio made his in-ring debut all the way back in 1989 and has been competing in major promotions for three decades.

In the past, the 2K Showcase has highlighted the careers of Daniel Bryan, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, John Cena, Ultimate Warrior, Mark Henry, many other legends, and the WWE 2K20 Showcase focused on The Women's Evolution in WWE.

This year they're going back to the more focused plan of having just one superstar at the center, and there are few more deserving than Rey Mysterio.

2K Showcase could bring classic content and legends

One of the big factors to keep in mind with the 2K Showcase is that it often dictates some of the classic content that works its way into the finished game.

If 2K has to build classic WCW or SmackDown arenas to highlight certain eras in Rey Mysterio's career, those will likely be available to use elsewhere in the game.

Perhaps the most exciting two of these could be the WCW Halloween Havoc 1997 arena, which featured Rey's unforgettable clash with Eddie Guerrero, and the beloved SmackDown Fist arena from the early 2000s.

The WWE 2K22 Showcase could also affect alternate attires, as we could see multiple versions of Rey Mysterio in the final WWE 2K22 roster.

On top of that, it could end up dictating some of the legends we see included in the WWE 2K22 roster.

Rey Mysterio has had legendary rivalries with Eddie Guerrero, Batista, Dean Malenko, Kurt Angle, Juventud Guerrera, Billy Kidman, The Great Khali, Kane, and many others that 2K could've looked to include.

We'll unfortunately have to wait for more details from 2K, but there's a strong chance the WWE 2K22 Showcase could be one of their best ever.
