WWE 2K22 is finally here, but with it comes new challenges like making sure you can escape a crucially timed submission.
Fortunately, with these tips you can set yourself up for success in WWE 2K22 to escape submissions and turn the tide on your opponent.
WWE 2K22: How to escape submissions
If you're still getting into the groove of the new WWE 2K22 controls, submissions may not have popped up right away as something you'll struggle with.
Most of the superstars in the game don't focus on submissions aside from a weardown option once or twice in a match, but facing a submission specialist can be a nightmare.
WWE 2K22 submissions use a button-mashing mechanic where one of the four buttons on your controller (either B, X, A, or Y for Xbox or Square, Circle, Triangle, or X for PlayStation) will be displayed.
Rapidly press the button being displayed, but watch closely as it will switch and if you continue tapping the previous button it can worsen the situation. Also note that some submissions will prompt a Crawl option where you can move the Left Stick to move towards the ropes and initiate a Rope Break to escape.
If you're struggling to press the button fast enough, there is a way to improve that situation thanks to one of the key settings many players may not have noticed.
From the Main Menu in WWE 2K22, tab over to Options and under Gameplay you'll find one labeled "Allow Hold Input For Mini-Games." Turn this on, and you'll be able to simply hold down the corresponding button and get the same effect of rapidly pressing it.
How to use Resiliency to escape instantly
While you can always use those methods, there is one last resort option to escape a submission depending on which superstar you're using.
Players can set one Payback ability per superstar, which is normally selected at character creation but can be changed prior to starting a match using someone already on the WWE 2K22 roster.
If a superstar has the Resiliency ability, it will allow them the option to press RT + Y or R2 + Triangle in a pinch to escape a pinfall or submission instantaneously.
Unfortunately, the catch is that you need two Special Stock bars saved up to do this. That means it's nearly impossible to nail two times in close succession, so make sure once you've escaped to get out of dodge until you can regenerate some health and regroup.
