After plenty of anticipation, the MLB The Show 22 cover athlete has finally been revealed, and in reality there was no other proper choice this year.
We've got full details on the official MLB The Show 22 cover athlete, release date, and news on platforms and features that were already confirmed.
MLB The Show 22 cover athlete, release date revealed
After announcing a massive reveal set to be shown live in Times Square, the MLB The Show 22 cover athlete has now been announced as living legend Shohei Ohtani.
There's no other player that dominated and truly showed their superstardom in baseball last year like Shohei Ohtani, and it's amazing to see him get that recognition in a new way.
The announcement also confirmed the official release date for the game will be April 5, 2022, which is even sooner than we'd expected.
We'll see the game return to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S like it did last year, but for the first time it will hit Nintendo Switch.
MLB The Show 22 confirms crossplay, cross-platform progression once again
While most of today's reveal centered on Shohei Ohtani as the cover athlete and the confirmation of release date and platforms, they've dropped another huge piece of news.
Last year, MLB The Show 21 broke new ground for sports gaming by introducing crossplay and cross-platform progression across both Sony and Xbox platforms.
This year they take that even further, as MLB The Show 22 hits Nintendo Switch for the first time in the franchise's history.
On top of that, crossplay and cross-platform progression will continue to be the standard for MLB The Show 22 across and between PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
We also learned that MLB The Show 22 will hit Xbox Game Pass on Day One, a huge confirmation that Sony San Diego saw success last year by releasing MLB The Show 21 to Game Pass at launch.
We've still got plenty more to learn, and that begins with the Collector's Edition Reveal scheduled now for Wednesday, February 2, 2022.
We'll likely learn of an epic legend getting to grace this year's Deluxe option, and we should get news about whether Early Access will return for those who purchase the Collector's Edition of MLB The Show 22.
