The 2022 Qatar World Cup promo has well and truly taken over Ultimate Team in FIFA 23.
We've seen Path to Glory items, Road to the World Cup cards and a whole World Cup Swaps program introduced over the past few weeks.
However, the community feels that EA has seriously missed the mark with the FUT World Cup content that had so much potential for greatness.
So, we're taking a detailed look into the World Cup campaign and why it has been the most disappointing promo in Ultimate Team history.
Pointless player items
First of all, I think it's fair to say we have all had enough of these useless World Cup Player Items clogging up our Ultimate Team clubs.
Once you have achieved the six wins that you need to complete the World Cup Swaps OBjective, they become completely and utterly pointless.
Having opened what feels like thousands of World Cup Player Picks within packs, all that seems to pop up now are duplicates.
EA could have allowed us to use the World Cup Player Items and their duplicates in specific Squad Building Challenges.
For example, an Upgrade SBC for unwanted World Cup Player Items that reward you with Rare Gold cards could have been introduced, but no, this would have made too much sense.
No performance-based content
Secondly, there has been little to no performance-based content... for the biggest footballing competition in the world.
Yes, Path to Glory items receive upgrades based on how their country performs at the World Cup, but this could have nothing to do with the specific player's performance itself.
For example, France international Christopher Nkunku has played 0 minutes for his nation at the World Cup due to an injury, yet his card is still upgraded.
We would have loved to see regular Man of the Match cards released into packs after each round of the tournament, especially with the Team of the Week promo on hold for the time being.
Unachievable SBCs
EA has introduced plenty of giant Squad Building Challenges over the course of the past few weeks.
These include three 87+ Base or Mid Icon Upgrades, three 86+ FUT Hero or FIFA World Cup Hero Upgrades, a repeatable Year in Review Player Pick and a Campaign Player Pick.
Whilst this vast content may sound like fun, it has been near on impossible to complete the SBCs themselves due to the lack of fodder available.
There is no grindable way of amassing large amounts of fodder within your club.
The community has been crying out for Nation SBCs, League SBCs or some other method of turning Bronze, Silver and Gold cards into fodder.
Awful Objectives
When it comes to the Objectives it's the same old story.
The special cards that EA has offered through Objectives have been well below the power curve of the current game, for example, the Aaron Ramsey Path to Glory item that you can see below.
Pretty much every single World Cup Objective card has simply not been worth the time to complete for most FUT players.
This is coupled with the fact that the transfer market is well and truly o the floor, meaning the players on Objective players offer do not compare to top-tier cards that you can purchase for next to nothing on the market.
