The hype surrounding AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door included some unexpected AEW Fight Forever news from Kenny Omega.
Despite his expected role in WWE 2K23, one major star will still make the AEW Fight Forever roster.
Kenny Omega confirms AEW Fight Forever roster will include Cody Rhodes
AEW Fight Forever news has been sporadic, to say the least, but a recent round of interviews by Kenny Omega has dropped some new details.
Omega has been out due to injury for some time, but it's allowed him the opportunity to focus on helping with development of AEW Fight Forever.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Kenny Omega chose to let news that will be a major surprise to many slip out as we learned Cody Rhodes will still be in the game.
One of the hottest news stories of early 2022 focused on "free agent" Cody Rhodes and the initial belief he would never leave AEW only for him to return to WWE at WrestleMania.
“This may come as a surprise to people, but Cody is still in the game,” Omega said. “I was very passionate about making sure his legacy and position within the company were preserved.”
Kenny Omega went on to explain that they want players to be able to "experience AEW from the beginning, from day one," and the presence of Cody Rhodes is a definite part of that.
Cody Rhodes could even be WWE 2K23 cover star
While 2K and WWE Games haven't made anything official, we can very safely predict that Cody Rhodes will be on the WWE 2K23 roster.
Back in May, Mike Straw of SGO reported that WWE wanted Cody Rhodes to be included in WWE 2K22 but couldn't make it happen before launch.
"They knew it was unlikely, but you don’t know for sure unless you ask," a source told Straw about WWE asking the development team of Rhodes could be added in time.
On top of that, Cody Rhodes added fuel to the speculatory fire with the above tweet hinting he just might be on the cover of WWE 2K23.
If he is chosen for that honor, it may also mean fans could be in store for a 2K Showcase featuring Rhodes, as cover star Rey Mysterio got that nod in WWE 2K22.
We'll have to wait and see what is ultimately announced, but as of now fans can count on lots of Cody Rhodes in their upcoming wrestling games.
