UFL has just gone live with their worldwide gameplay reveal, with the game set to go head-to-head with FIFA for a place on the market.

By being free to play, something developers Strikerz Inc. associate with being fair to play, they look to set themselves apart from their main rivals.

Check out all the latest news from the gameplay reveal, including what we can expect from the game and its release date.

Behind the Scenes

Led by Strikerz CEO Eugene Nashilov, the reveal started off with meeting some of the developers from the company.

A look behind the scenes showed us some clips of cut scenes still in development, and the intention for a documentary-style feel to the game.

If pulled off, this will really immerse you within the game, something we've been seeing from the initial trailer.

Gameplay News

UFL gameplay is based on the pillars of being "fun, competitive, realistic looking and responsive".

Its flagship game mode will be a global online league, with a division based ranking, which uses a fair matchmaking system to pit you against players of a similar level.

You will create your own club, with more wins giving you the opportunity to develop your side.

There will be transfers to improve your side, with the ability to upgrade individual players and change their starting position as well (potentially through training).

By climbing the divisions you will make it all the way to the Premier Division, which can lead to you qualifying for worldwide tournaments and events.

The division system will be the main game mode, but this will also be joined by non-league online matches, 2v2, 3v3, offline modes, missions and challenges.

There will be no resets in the game, so you will keep everything you earn as you grow your side.

Hashtag United Alliance

A special mention was given to Hashtag United, which developed from an amateur club before moving to an officially recognised semi-professional club.

As well as the real-world football team they also have a top esports team, and the combination of both looks to be something UFL could build towards in the future.

Big Reveal

We've already seen Oleksandr Zinchenko, Roberto Firmino, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne announced as ambassadors for the game, but they saved the biggest name for the gameplay reveal.

Cristiano Ronaldo was unveiled as the fifth ambassador, and his massive worldwide reputation will only help the game go from strength to strength.

Yes, the "quick call" with CR7 was a bit cheesy and stinted, but that doesn't detract from what an amazing announcement it was.

Gameplay Reveal

Then it was time for the main event, actual gameplay footage from UFL.

Unfortunately, there was very little gameplay footage shown, and what was shown still looked very much like a work in progress.

The developers acknowledge that it is still a work in progress, but we were hoping for a more finished product.

The game modes all sound great, but at the end of the day, the game will live or die depending on the gameplay.

Release Date

We went into the reveal with no official release date for UFL, and we're coming out of it pretty much in the same position.

The statement from the gameplay trailer now says it will be released "when it's ready", with the caveat that it will be in 2022.

With the disastrous start to life that eFootball had, the game makers are taking their time to make sure it is as polished as possible before committing to a date.
