If you thought massive game delays were a thing of the past, think again. It appears that Square Enix's huge new IP, Forspoken, could be about to suffer a delay.
The game has been shown off at multiple digital showcases and built up a fair amount of hype with fans excited to see more from the original concept.
We've had the reveal and story trailers with some gameplay released just a few months ago. Things were looking promising but now comes the bad news. According to AccountNGT on Twitter, a source has confirmed to them that the game is delayed.
An official announcement of this delay could be given at the next Sony State of Play event, believed to be taking place this month. Given that we're just two months away from launch, it is the prime window for a delay to occur. What's unclear at this point is how severe the delay is.
Will the game be pushed to either Q3 or Q4 this year? Will Forspoken become an early 2023 title? So little is known beyond the initial leak that we can only wait on the official announcement to know more.
When this rumour reached Reddit, the conversation immediately turned to how stacked February and March are for games. Many users expressed their desire for a mid-year drought so that they can catch up on new games and enjoy them to completion.
It's not unheard of for a developer to delay a game to get out of a bust period but in the case of Forspoken, it really did have all eyes on it with no major releases anywhere near its planned May 25 launch date.
If there's one fallout from the Cyberpunk 2077 debacle that still rings true among the gaming community, it's to ensure that developers are happy with the product they put out and are not trying to put out fires post-launch.
