Is Battlefield 2042 going Free to Play?

It's no secret that Battlefield 2042 has had a rough start to life since its release late in 2021. What's more surprising is the lack of action and an apparent refusal to take on community feedback to help improve the game.

Despite all of this negativity surrounding the game, EA could be preparing one final throw of the dice to save the game before things get out of control. With an ever-dwindling player base, is Battlefield 2042 set to go free to play?

Is Battlefield 2042 going Free to Play?

While rumours are running wild, there's no confirmation that Battlefield 2042 is going free to pay. It certainly seems like a logical conclusion to come to given that there are fewer and fewer players coming back to Battlefield 2042 as time passes.

Free to play - as many players within the community have pointed out - is not necessarily an easy win and solution to the problems plaguing the game. Just because something is offered for free, doesn't mean that players will automatically flock to it and retention becomes even harder. Even Halo: Infinite, which is objectively a better game, has struggled to bring back some of the huge numbers it first launched with.

Bigger Issues in play

On top of the in-game issues, a banning scandal has arisen that's seen a ton of players lose access to the game for a completely ingenuine reason. Research done by @_Tom_Henderson_ shows that many of those who received a ban were using simple RGB software that has been known to cause false flags with anti-cheat software.

EA's handling of the process has also received a huge negative reaction. They are offering no transparency despite the mountains of evidence that some players are able to provide to prove that they were not cheating in any way.
