Ghost of Tsushima Legends has been out a little while now, if you own Ghost of Tsushima, but it's getting a standalone release this week! If you want to take on all the mythical beasts on offer without purchasing the full version of Ghost of Tsushima, we have everything you need to know about how you can do that and what's on offer below.
RELEASE DATE - When does it come out?
Following the release of Ghost of Tsushima's Director's Cut, Ghost of Tsushima Legends is due to release as its own entity on September 3rd.
It's going to be available on both current-gen and next-gen consoles - so, the PS4 and PS5 (sorry Xbox) - and it will feature all of the content originally released with Ghost of Tsushima Legends.
There's also going to be a few extras available that were added on August 20th. You'll be able to access it all - whether you've paid for the standalone release or whether you've been playing it with Ghost of Tsushima or Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut.
PRICE - How much will it set you back?
Sadly, this does come at a price. We know Ghost of Tsushima Legends is good, but we don't know how many people are going to pay for it instead of just purchasing the full game.
Still, Ghost of Tsushima Legends is going to set you back around $19.99 / £15.99 on the PlayStation Store. It'll be the same price on PS4 and PS5, though, which is something.
" For players who purchase the standalone release of Legends, if you decide you want to check out the rest of Ghost of Tsushima, you’ll be able to upgrade to Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut at any time for $40 / €50 /£44 (PS4) or $50 / €60 / £54 (PS5)."
NEW FEATURES - Rivals, Gear Mastery, & More
On top of all the original Ghost of Tsushima Legends content, Ghost of Tsushima Legends is also getting a few new modes with its standalone release.
Rivals Mode, a competitive co-op mode that pits two teams of Samurai against one another in a fast-paced PvE environment, is on the way alongside a Gear Mastery System.
As you can see below, Rivals is played alongside another team but independent of one another. Ghost of Tsushima's swordplay is a precise art and we can imagine PvP combat would be difficult to get right. You can negatively affect your opponents, though, it just isn't directly.
THE FUTURE - New coming content weekly
Rivals will be available right from the off - and is already available for those of you who bought Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut last month - however, there's more to look forward to over the next month.
" ... we’ll be adding a new piece of content each week from September 10 through October 1, including an additional Rivals map, new Survival maps inspired by Iki Island and Iyo’s realm, and Trials of Iyo, a new harder-difficulty version of last year’s Raid that offers challenges in bite-sized chunks, and offers a new set of online leaderboards."
Sucker Punch Productions is adding new Trials of Iyo, locations from Iki Island, and more in the next few weeks. This is all going to be free to download and should help breathe fresh life into the mode if you've been playing for a little while.
We don't know if this will be the end of support for Ghost of Tsushima Legends - new content-wise anyway - however, we're hoping more will be added if this does well. We would like to see a new playable class added - something reflecting the Shaman from the Iki Island expansion - but we'll have to wait and see.
