Trying to break the chains that bind Scylla in Genshin Impact's new questline? With the release of Version 4.6, a series of World Quests are now available for the player to complete, and one of them involves freeing a sea creature underwater.

In the new underwater region of the Sea of Bygone Eras, which can be unlocked by visiting Petrichor, you'll come across the fell dragon Scylla, who is bound in chains. Let's find out how to get rid of the chains and free Scylla!

How to break the chains that bind Scylla

In Genshin Impact Version 4.6, you'll be exploring the underwater region hidden within Petrichor as part of The Last Day of Remuria quest. There are three chains surrounding the fell dragon Scylla, which resembles a whale, in the location of Initium Iani.

There are several Teleport Waypoints in this region that you can unlock to get around easier! One of them is right next to Scylla, so you'll be able to return to the sea creature after every chain you break.

The chains resemble glowing lines that you can follow to find each of the three connected puzzles. You'll need to solve the puzzles in any order to break the chains that bind Scylla.

Battle chain

For one of the chains, you'll need to fight against a group of golems. It's a good idea to have a Geo character on your team to readily deal with their Geo shields. This chain is in the southern part of the Sea of Bygone Eras, where you'll be transported into a cave.

After beating the three golems in battle, get close to the chain and use your new Symphony skill with the help of the Elemental Skill button to break the binding.

Trust chain

For the puzzle in Portus Anticus in the northwestern section of the Sea of Bygone Eras, you'll find more golems. However, they are willing to talk it out with you, which means you don't need to fight them - as long as you answer their questions correctly!

Here's what you should answer for their line of questioning:

  • The Sebastos does not permit the harm of innocent people.
  • Yet you are not receiving the melody.
  • Phobos's silence signifies rejection.

Once the golems stand down, you're free to use your Symphony skill on the second chain binding Scylla.

Puzzle chain

This one is an actual Genshin Impact puzzle, no fighting or dialogue to be had here. Located east of the Sea of Bygone Eras, this puzzle is closest to the fell dragon, and takes place underwater. You'll find four Washer Octopuses running in circles around flowers.

To solve the puzzle, use your Symphony skill to stop each Octopus in its tracks, in such a manner that they're close to each of the flowers - the Octopus barriers should enclose the flowers. You'll know you've got it right when the flowers glow.

Approach each Octopus and wait for their barrier to cover the flowers in its vicinity to use your Symphony skill. This will lock the Octopus in place, which is indicated by a quarter note over its head. You can keep trying until you have all the flowers glowing - and move forward with breaking the final chain!

How To Use Scylla Ability In Genshin Impact

Once the cutscene is over, you can approach the freed sea creature and interact with it to summon a current. This allows you to explore the underwater region quicker by boosting yourself forward (T key on PC).
