Genshin Impact's much-anticipated Version 4.6 update brings a wave of exciting content, including a formidable new Weekly Boss: The Knave, also known as Arlecchino. Though her appearance in the Fontaine Archon Quest was brief, Arlecchino's sharp wit and ominous presence left a lasting impression on players.
Ranked fourth among the eleven formidable Fatui Harbingers, Arlecchino’s playable kit is about to set the battlefield (and meta) ablaze. But her prowess extends beyond our control, shaping up to be one of the most intense boss fights Genshin Impact has ever seen. In this guide, we’ll dive into everything you need to know about “The Knave” boss fight, including her location, battle strategies, drops, and more!
The Knave (Arlecchino) Boss location
The 4.6 Livestream revealed the new map expansion for Version 4.6, the fallen Fontainian kingdom of Remuria, which is the once-thriving civilization that predated the Hydro Archon Egeria.
You can unlock this region by heading to the new island Petrichor and beginning the World Quest "The Shadow Over Petrichor" where you'll meet the feline Osse! By following Osse into the deep spring, you'll find the underwater Faded Castle, and unlock The Knave boss location.
While Arlecchino's boss form might be tied to her Story Quest, the good news is you can challenge The Knave directly as a Weekly Boss once you reach Adventure Rank 40. All you need to do is open the Adventurer's Handbook, navigate to the Domains tab, select Trounce Domains, and finally, use the "Quick Challenge" option on Scattered Ruins.
The Knave attack patterns
The Knave is known for unpredictable attacks, but if you're familiar with all her attacks, it gets a lot easier to defend yourself! The boss fight appears to be a two-phase challenge with a diverse arsenal of attacks. The Knave will dodge or block all attacks when not attacking and the player is far away, so you'll need to get close to land an attack on her.
Here are the attacks you'll be facing in the first phase:
Bond of Life
On reaching certain levels of HP, the Knave will apply the Bond of Life to all players, which prevents you from healing unless you clear it first.
Slash and Hook
Performs a slashing attack followed by a hooking pull. Make sure to avoid it! Plus, there's a chance she'll follow up with three more attacks if she is below 70% HP.
Scythewheel
The Knave launches a spinning scythe wheel, which you can anticipate and dodge away from.
Here's what you need to watch out for in the second phase:
Pyro Plunge
Be prepared to step back after the second phase 2 begins, as the Knave will perform a plunge attack.
Dual Scythewheel
Like the Scythewheel from the previous phase, but it's two this time!
Bloodtide Banquet
The Knave will deal Pyro area damage, but you can interrupt this attack with a Charged Attack imbued with Scarlet Nighttide for extra damage.
How to defeat the Knave Boss in Genshin Impact
Once you're familiar with the Knave's attack patterns, you'll have an easier time dealing with her attacks and avoiding taking damage. You'll need to watch out for the Bond of Life mechanic, where the Knave will consume her own HP in order to apply the mechanic to you with a hit.
In the first phase, the Knave will perform a slashing attack followed by a hooking pull. Make sure to avoid it! Plus, there's a chance she'll follow up with three more attacks if she is below 70% HP.
Make sure to use your shielder or healer to protect your fighter, and ensure that the Bond of Life mechanic doesn't stay for too long. As long as you can remove it quickly, you have a fighting chance!
Fighting the Knave from behind is an option, but you'll need to watch out for her turning slash attack, where she uses both scythes to attack you if you're behind her.
Once you get into the second phase, there's more to worry about. Besides the attacks mentioned, the Knave uses fires a massive laser beam in the direction of the player, and can be chained up to three times. She also launches homing projectiles and plunges down along with six orbs, which cause explosions for additional damage.
Most of these attacks can be avoided by watching out for the animation, so keep your eyes peeled!
Best team comp for The Knave
As The Knave has 70% Pyro resistance, we recommend that you avoid bringing Pyro DPS characters for this fight. Thankfully, her resistance to other elements and physical damage should be around 10%, allowing for more flexibility in team building.
The Knave frequently takes to the skies, putting her out of reach for melee attackers. Here, DPS archers will have a significant advantage.
The Knave's arsenal appears to be heavy on AoE attacks, making dodging a challenge. Additionally, her "Bond of Life" debuff requires healing to remove. So, having a good healer or shielder in your team would be crucial.
Here are two potential team compositions to consider, but feel free to adapt based on your character availability and playstyle:
- Ganyu, Mona/Kokomi, Venti/Kazuha, Diona
- Tighnari, Yae Miko, Nahida, Kuki Shinobu/Zhongli
Don't fret if you do not have a strong Bow character, as the Knave does not possess any notable elemental (aside from Pyro) or physical resistance, and is vulnerable to attacks when she descends, so feel free to employ the team you’re most comfortable with and you are good to go!
