NBA 2K21 dropped on 4 September, and had a truly remarkable launch month.
While 2K has spent plenty of time recently hyping up the amazing features the next-gen version will have, gamers have been enjoying the title on current-gen too.
Top earner for September
NBA 2K games sell like hotcakes every year, and 2020 was no different.
NBA 2K21 sold 1.9 million digital units, with digital console sales up 19% over NBA 2K20 at launch.
in-game revenue has seen an increase too, of 8% over last year.
All told that made NBA 2K21 the top earning title of September per a SuperData report.
Some of this is attributed to the NBA playoffs running at the same time, heightening the interest in the sport and the game.
Plans for next-gen
NBA 2K21 promised something big for next-gen, and 2K has started to outline what that means. From new player ratings to changes in Badges and new Takeovers, there is a lot of new gameplay options for players to enjoy on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
All that comes with the natural upgrades the superior hardware offers, like faster loading and better graphics.
NBA 2K21 is the first truly next-gen built sports title, and we can't wait to see how it plays on the new machines!
