During today's Future of Unreal stream, Crystal Dynamics has revealed that they're working on the next Tomb Raider game.

The new game will be developed using Unreal Engine 5, which has been made available to all developers from April 5.

New Tomb Raider Game in Development

The game is set to be a "high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience" like the previous entries, and this is the first since The Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which released in 2018.

It's not clear yet whether this new game will follow the story of the previous trilogy or whether it'll be a reboot of sorts.

No other details were given on the games. Presumably Lara Croft returns, since she IS the Tomb Raider, but maybe a change is on the cards or we begin an adventure with her at a different stage of her life.

New Tomb Raider Release Date

Unfortunately, that lack of details also means we haven't heard anything in terms of a release date. No release window of any kind was given during the stream.

Since Unreal Engine 5 is still a relatively new feature. We imagine the release of the new Tomb Raider will be a few years away at least.

As soon as we hear more on the game, we'll be sure to let you know.
