Is New World releasing on Console?

The first game from Amazon Game Studios, New World, is set to release very soon and fans are hyped following multiple successful Beta periods. With little time left before release, some are asking if the game will be launching on consoles or exclusively on PC.

Here's what we know so far about New World's release plans going forward.

Is New World coming to Consoles?

No, New World will not be launching on home consoles like the Xbox Series X or PS5. As an MMORPG, it's difficult to properly optimize the game for use with a controller and simplify the UI/menu system.

It's been a long development cycle for New World as things stand with multiple delays. To expect the team to create a console port version so close to launch (and in the immediate aftermath) would be too much to ask.

Will New World ever come to Console?

It's highly doubtful that New World will ever come to console. Like many other popular MMORPG's such as World of Warcraft and Runescape, optimization is just too difficult. The sacrifices that would need to be made are not worth the effort of creating a port especially on such an important game for the company.

One game to look at as an example of difficult console ports is Diablo 3. The game plays best on PC but console ports are available. Despite the console versions being good, they are not anywhere near the quality of the original.

It also comes down to certain performance aspects such as framerate, which can make a big difference in combat. Many players will want to benefit from an uncapped or high frame rate which is not possible on home consoles mainly due to the limitations of TVs versus gaming monitors.
