Genshin Impact 2.7 is set to be a massive update for the game, introducing some exciting new banners and more, soon to be revealed in the upcoming Genshin Impact 2.7 Livestream. Unfortunately, circumstances around Hoyoverse may result in the update being delayed.
Mainland China has entered into a new period of Lockdown due to COVID, complicating the release of Genshin Impact 2.7, which may be postponed until conditions get better.
Here is everything we know and the possible implications for the future of Genshin Impact.
Shangai Lockdown
The Government of China decreed a state of emergency in the last week of March 2022 in an effort to stop a new rise of COVID cases.
While lockdowns are typically troublesome for game developers, Hoyoverse and Genshin Impact managed to operate during the past years of the Pandemic with no delays or cancellations.
But the situation is a bit different this time around. Shanghai, the most populated city in China, has been on lockdown for three weeks.
Food shortage, evictions, and other emergency processes have led to some conflicts and issues that are unlike the pandemic's onset.
As a result, many within the Genshin Impact community have taken to speculation that Genshin Impact 2.7 may be delayed.

What would delaying Genshin Impact 2.7 mean for the game?
Postponing the release of Genshin Impact 2.7 will significantly impact the plans of Hoyoverse for 2022, which is used to release content in cycles and connected to calendar dates.
Here is a list of possible issues:
- The first is related to future banners. With a delay, we might receive a filler banner to close the gap.
- The filler Banner will most likely feature a 5-star character from the standard banner.
- Keqing featured a filler banner back in March 2021, giving us some precedence for this.
- The release of Kusanali, the Dendro Archon, was expected for the second anniversary, during Version 3.1, mirroring the release of the Electro Archon in Genshin Impact 2.1.
- Unfortunately, to catch on time to push Kusanali in the Anniversary Banner, developers might skip the return of the Golden Apple Archipielago.
- Genshin Impact 2.8 was expected to be a patch with only reruns, Kazuha among them.
- Pushing the return of Kazuha even further will bring community discontent, considering he is currently the strongest character in the game.
Beyond these calendar implications, if Hoyoverse do decide to delay Genshin Impact 2.7, we're sure players will be compensated for the problems with free Primogems. But in the end, a decision like this could drastically alter the timeline for Genshin Impact this year.
We will keep you updated with the latest news and the evolution of these events as they're revealed.
