LATEST - Warzone 2 Reveal
Warzone 2 has been revealed! Call of Duty Next gave us all the details we could possibly need about the upcoming game.
Al Mazrah is the new location for the Battle Royale, and will be a welcome sight after Caldera. DMZ will share the same map, and is a great option to explore the POIs before you drop in.
Warzone 2 Release Date
This really is a question that no one can have a solid answer to at the moment. We do, however, have a hint of what timeline we could be looking at.
With the agreement for Call of Duty games on PS5 set to end in 2023, it's safe to assume that Warzone 2 will be out by the end of next year. This was first confirmed by Jason Schreier and Bloomberg.
Work on this will have begun long before the Caldera issues began but it's unfortunate that this will likely be seen as a cause for Warzone 2's creation.
Will Warzone 2 be on PS4 and Xbox One?
At the moment, we feel confident that Warzone 2 will not be available on previous-gen consoles. This comes after multiple reports that the new battle royale game will focus entirely on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S instead.
The idea is that Warzone 2 is the alternative to creating a full upgrade patch for the current game. Other games like Apex Legends and Fortnite have taken steps towards optimizing their games for the newer platforms but neither looks likely to go to the extremes that Activision is with Warzone 2.
Hopefully, the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles are much easier to get a hold of by the time the game comes out otherwise it might alienate players that feel like they're being left behind. The chip shortage causing the issues is believed to continue through to the end of 2022 at least.
Warzone 2 Cross-Play
Cross-play is expected to be available from release day in Warzone 2. It has been a successful part of the current Warzone title and despite some issues with Anti-Cheat, this isn't expected to negatively affect the inclusion of cross-play going forward.
There should always be a means to turn the feature off, but it is expected that it will be enabled by default.
