Grand Theft Auto 6 is perhaps the most highly anticipated game of all time, and it hasn't even been officially announced yet.

There has been many rumours and a lot of speculation surrounding the game, but so far the game remains unannounced and hasn't been officially acknowledged by Rockstar.

But will it be launching on the last-gen systems?

Will GTA 6 Be On Xbox One?

November 2013 saw the release of both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The Xbox One didn't do as well as the PS4 in sales but still remained a popular system overall.

November 2020 saw the next-generation of consoles launch worldwide, with both the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 releasing.

Since its release, many players have been unable to secure any of the next-gen systems, meaning that many will be stuck with last-gen hardware for the foreseeable.

The first couple of years of the console's lifecycle is more of a transitional period, where games are often developed for both last and next-gen hardware.

ACTIVE: GTA Online still remains one of the most played games today.

This usually means that games are "dumbed down" to make work on the old hardware.

We usually don't get to see what the new technology is fully capable of until around year 3 of a console's lifecycle.

As of right now, GTA 6 is unannounced, but the rumoured release date is in late 2023, based on Take-Two's marketing budget for 2023/2024.

This would mean the Xbox Series X|S will have been out for three years, which would make the Xbox One 10 years old and likely discontinued by that point.

So it is extremely unlikely that GTA 6 will be releasing on the Xbox One as Rockstar will be looking to showcase their latest entry in the best way possible, taking full advantage of what is under the hood of the new consoles.

Later this year we will see GTA V ported to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, giving Rockstar an opportunity to develop for the next-gen systems before launching GTA 6 in the future.
