Will Cyberpunk 1.2 finally fix game on PS4 and Xbox?

Cyberpunk 2077 has been a rollercoaster since it was released back in December 2020.

The game failed to live up to the hype caused by an eight-year development cycle, and being the next game from CD Projekt Red after the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3.

Overall, Cyberpunk 2077 has disappointed most fans, with Sony even removing it from its PS Store.

But can the upcoming 1.2 patch finally fix the game?

A Disappointing Launch

Cyberpunk 2077 was finally released on December 10th 2020 after numerous delays and an eight-year development cycle.

The game is the latest title from CD Projekt Red, and the first since 2015's The Witcher 3.

Witcher 3 took CDPR to new heights, cementing the company as one of the top gaming developers in the world.

But, that accolade didn't last for long because Cyberpunk 2077 did not live up to expectations.

Full of glitches and performance issues, it is safe to say that the game was an absolute mess when it first launched.

Console Disaster

Cyberpunk 2077 was a mess on PC when it launched, and that was by far the best version.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game shipped at an almost unplayable state.

With many graphical issues and frame rates dropping as low as 15fps, many gamers demanded their money back from Sony and Microsoft.

This caused Sony to completely remove the game from their platform until CD Projekt Red sorted out all of the issues that were plaguing the game.

As of right now, February 2021, the game still hasn't been added back onto the PlayStation Store.

The 1.2 Update

Last month saw the first major patch for Cyberpunk 2077, the 1.1 update.

This improved many issues in the game, from characters t-posing, the major graphical and performance issues.

However, the game is far from perfect and still needs a lot of work doing to it.

The 1.2 update is due to be released very soon, but no release date has been given yet.

It is hoped that the 1.2 update will have a strong focus on bringing the performance of the console versions back up to scratch and allow it to be reinstated on the PS Store.

The Hack

Earlier this month CD Projekt Red was the victim of hackers, which ended up with the hackers stealing the source code for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3 and other games, as well as many documents containing financial information and personal information of employees.

These files were held for ransom, but CDPR refused to pay.

It has since been reported that the source code for these games was sold on the dark web for $7 million.

So far, CD Projekt Red has remained quiet about the hack and no details have been given as to whether this will impact the upcoming 1.2 patch.

Will The 1.2 Update Fix The Console Ports?

It's hard to say whether they will, at some point CDPR are going to have to fix them and it would make sense for it to be sooner rather than later.

The game has been out for over 2 months now, so that should have given the company plenty of time to be able to patch a lot of the major issues with the game.

But, there is also the possibility that Cyberpunk 2077 is simply too demanding for the last-gen consoles and that those versions should never have been released.

Only time will tell and all we can do is wait and see whether CDPR manage to fix the console versions.

The recent hack could also delay things in terms of fixes, but it could also be a benefit.

Once the source code is out in the wild, modders and developers will be hard at work trying to fix the game themselves and bring us the game we all hoped for.

It wouldn't surprise me if modders do a better job than CD Projekt Red themselves.

After all, we have seen incredible things be done by amateur developers on a shoestring budget.
