We're still awaiting concrete news on The Sims 5. We know it's coming, but we don't know anything about how it'll look or when it might release.
However, that doesn't stop us or the Sims community talking about what we'd like to see from it.
Multiplayer, more realistic graphics, and many other new features have been requested, but it's the smaller things in life that could make The Sims 5 a lot more fun to play.
A Great Idea
In a post on the Sims 5 Reddit, u/SportsVoice25 posted their wishlist for the next game and one of their ideas caught our eye.
They titled their idea 'Always A Different Gaming Experience' and said that "it would be great if each time you played The Sims 5 it always felt like a completely different experience instead of having things repeat themselves after a while," using the fact that no two days of real life are the same to suggest it would bring realism.
As they say, it would make playing through day after day in The Sims 5 more exciting and compelling, whether you have time for just a day or are smashing through week after week.
While The Sims has plenty of variety already thanks to countless careers in the base game and themed expansions, the day to day can be pretty predictable.
Yes, having that control over every moment of every day is what a lot of Sims fans love. They can mould life to be exactly how they want it, pursuing the opportunities and relationships that they find most interesting.
Preferring that is completetly understandable. After all, The Sims is a 'sit back and relax' game for many, but consider how much more engaging The Sims 5 could be if surprises were thrown at you from time to time.
Surprises Good & Bad in The Sims 5
These surprises don't have to be exclusively frustratingly negative, as they aren't in real life. Good things could come out of the blue for your sims, alongside the bad.
That's how it works in the real world. You never know when something like your car breaking down is going to hit you, or when your day is made better by a random act of kindness.
Sometimes your schedule can be thrown completely out of whack by one small thing, good or bad, and those situations could be a great addition to EA's series.
Random acts of kindness from strangers that change how your sim's day goes, something breaking at your house, or something unexpected happening at work could completely change the menial day to day.
It'll also keep you on your toes at all times. Instead of having one eye on something else, going through the motions, you'll need and want to pay attention to what's happening, due to the possibility of something unexpected happening at any moment.
While increased engagement is a key reason this idea is so exciting, it would also simply increase the realism of The Sims.
Improved visuals (albeit still in the style of The Sims) and expanded life options are great, but it doesn't matter if developing life doesn't feel at least a bit real.
Embracing the unpredicatability of real life would certainly do that and the challenges that could come from dealing with these surprises could completely change how The Sims is played.
Fingers crossed it's something that's being considered for The Sims 5, whenever it might release.
