Should Tom Brady re-join the 99 club for Madden 22?

Every year, there is huge excitement around who the best players in Madden will be.

The highest rating a player can get is 99, and hence the 99 club was born.

A few years ago, EA started to spread the average ratings of players a lot more and made it much harder to get a high rating.

Madden 21 started with just five players in the illustrious club.

So with a Super Bowl MVP performance to his name, will we be seeing Tom Brady return to the group for Madden 22?

Tom Brady Madden 21 Rating

EA Sports were cautious in their rating of Brady this year.

After a tough playoff exit with the Patriots last season, many were waiting to see if the 43-year-old was still as good as he had been.

He started the game rated 90 OVR and had a couple of ups and downs through the season.

But Brady being Brady, he got hot at the right time, and by the time we got to the Conference Championships, he was back to being 96 OVR rated.

The case for Tom Brady in the 99 Club for Madden 22

In the playoffs, Brady showed us he is still the player we thought he was.

He is undoubtedly the greatest NFL player of all time, and he showed he is still playing at that level.

He made all the players around him play better, but more importantly, he showed he can make all the throws and there’s no fall-off in arm strength so far.

He also has been given the first-ever 99 OVR MUT card today.

There should also be space in the club. Whether it is Michael Thomas underperforming, or Christian McCaffrey getting injured, the five from last season won’t all be back next year.

The case against Tom Brady in the 99 Club for Madden 22

Just because Brady proved the doubters wrong this season, doesn’t mean he might not lose arm strength over this offseason.

He is getting older, and not even Brady can beat that.

EA Sports will want a mix of players from different positions in the 99 club, and it’s unlikely that Patrick Mahomes will be dropped.

It would be easy enough for them to give Brady a 98 rating and still respect him, without having to make space for him.

So, will Tom Brady be in the 99 Club for Madden 22?

In reality, we think he does get space.

Even if it is a sentimental decision, he has been such a good player and has done it again.

It’s hard to see him as not one of the best, if not the best, QB in the league. And he should be rated as such.

We will bring you news of the ratings as soon as we get them. Expect to see news of the 99 Club around July 2021.
