2021 was a great year for PS Plus, but will 2022 be any better? Well, PlayStation has just confirmed the next set of titles and we're not sure what to think. They were leaked last week, so this isn't a surprise - however, the confirmation is welcomed. Here's what we're getting.

Confirmed Games - PlayStation's Announcement

This might not be the biggest shock we've seen from PlayStation, but the following games have been confirmed for January 2022:

  • Deep Rock Galactic (PS4 & PS5)
  • Persona 5 Strikers (PS4)
  • Dirt 5 (PS4 & PS5)

You can check out the latest announcement below:

These will be available from January 4th - are you happy with this selection?

Latest leaks - Are we happy with these games?

Classically, the next set of PS Plus games has been leaked ahead of time - this is the eighth month in a row this has happened and it doesn't look like the trend is going to stop anytime soon.

Dealabs are back at it again with another PS Plus leak and they're rarely wrong. This means we could see the following made available in the New Year:

  • Deep Rock Galactic (PS4 & PS5)
  • DIRT 5 (PS4 & PS5)
  • Persona 5 Strikers (PS4)

Two PS5 games is a great start to the year, but will it continue? Only time will tell.

Square Enix bending their own rules for the holidays

Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 Remake was added to PS Plus as one of the free monthly games in March 2021 - this is all well and good but there was a catch that left a lot of people unhappy. If you claimed the FF7 Remake through PS Plus, you had to pay for the otherwise-free next-gen upgrade.

Thankfully, it looks like Square Enix and PlayStation are bending the rules a little bit this Christmas and they're doing away with this. From December 22nd, so right now, you can actually download the next-gen version of the FF7 Remake for free!

The Intermission DLC, which features Yuffie's Mission, is still going to cost you money - however, there's a lot that comes with the next-gen upgrade that makes it worth checking out.

This was a strange decision to initially limit the players who could access the upgrade, but you can't help but wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake has recently launched on PC via the Epic Games Store.

Announcements - When do we find out what we're getting?

PlayStation always announces their PS Plus games at the same time of the month, every month. This makes predicting when we're going to see January 2022's PS Plus announcement pretty easy - we should see PlayStation drop something at the following times:

  • 08:30 PST - December 29th
  • 11:30 EST - December 29th
  • 16:30 GMT - December 29th

This announcement is always made on the Wednesday before the games are due to be added to PS Plus's line-up. Looking at this month's games, we're going to see the January 2022 PS Plus games made available on January 6th, 2022.

Predictions - We could be getting anything really

At the moment, PlayStation offers players one PS5 game and two PS4 games - at least - every month with PS Plus. We don't think this is going to change anytime soon, but it does make predicting what we're getting a little tough. PlayStation has a lot of titles out there.

At the moment, there aren't any new game releases scheduled for January 6th - so, we don't think we're getting a Day One release from PS Plus. However, we should still get something interesting out of the service.

Firstly, for PlayStation 5 players, we think we're going to get our hands on Watch Dogs Legion. This title has been out for quite a while now and it's the type of game that would fit PS Plus' portfolio of games well - there's a lot of content in there and expansions for PlayStation to sell alongside it.

In addition to this, we think PlayStation 4 players will have the following games to look forward to:

  • Borderlands 3
  • F1 2020

Borderlands 3 is a game that's worth playing, whether you're a fan of the series or not. It's got a lot of heart and there's a lot of content in there. It would also set people up nicely for Tiny Tina's Wonderlands - which is due out in March!

PSYCHO - Would you be happy with this?

F1 2020 is also a solid choice considering PS Plus rarely offers racing games and it looks like F1 is going to be as popular as ever going into the 2022/23 season. We don't think we're going to get the newest F1 game, but the one before it seems like fair game.
