The last piece of the NBA 2K25 content puzzle has finally been placed, with 2K revealing all of the changes coming to the popular game mode, The City.
In NBA 2K25, The City underwent massive changes, introducing new game modes, a brand-new design, and improvements to already existing modes. All of this was done to make the City easier to navigate, and offer players new ways to enjoy the mode.
A Smaller But More Vibrant City
The City is incredibly smaller in NBA 2K25, as the NBA 2K developers condensed the map of The City by removing empty spaces, and making sure every building serves a purpose.
Now, all game modes in The City are concentrated in the Boulevard of the Stars, which makes it incredibly easier and faster for users to access the game mode they want.
Boulevard of the Stars has a unique design, with a "Walk of Fame" on the sideline, where the logos of past NBA champions are showcased. Players will be able to leave their mark on the "Walk of Fame", engraving their team logo by winning NBA championships in MyCAREER.
These changes are great, as they don't make The City overwhelming for new players, and make it easier and faster for users to access the game modes they want.
A New Game Mode
The City is introducing a new game mode in NBA 2K25, and it's called Proving Grounds.
Proving Grounds is where players will be able to showcase their skills by competing in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 games, to climb the leaderboards and earn fantastic rewards.
In this mode, users will play with "comp-level difficulty sliders", and the shoot meters will be turned off. It's the most competitive game mode inside The City, with leaderboards being updated daily, and tracking the best players by game type.
At the end of each NBA 2K25 season, the top five players in Proving Grounds, by game type, will earn exclusive rewards, that NBA 2K is expected to announce soon.
Welcome Back MyCOURT and Iconic MyPARKs!
2K listened to the NBA 2K community and is bringing back MyCOURT in NBA 2K25. This is a returning feature, that quite frankly should have never left the mode, and while still being a good addition, it's not game-changing by any means.
As was possible in the past, players will be able to customize their MyCOURT and invite friends or MyCAREER teammates over, to play in a 1v1, or Horse game, among many other game types. It's also a great way for players to practice their jump shot, or master certain mechanics.
But MyCOURT is not the only thing that is back, as the iconic NBA 2K15 MyPARKs are also returning. The Sunset Beach, Rivet City, Old Town, and the Old Town park in the aircraft carrier, are all back, and remastered, but are only available in the events center.
These four parks will be added to The City event center throughout the first four seasons. It gives players more ways to enjoy The City and also makes the game mode more entertaining.
Staple Modes Were Revamped
As expected, The City staple modes such as Pro-AM, The REC, and Ante-Up, are returning, however, all of them were revamped.
Pro-AM now has a new arena players can unlock by reaching the Platinum tier in Proving Grounds. Ante-Up has a brand-new aesthetic, while The Rec introduced a new and more immersive environment.
Affiliations Aren't Going Anywhere
Another thing that is returning in NBA 2K25 is affiliations, with Rise and Elite back, and ready to battle for supremacy over The City.
Both affiliations received new parks, the Elite park is now a pirate ship, while the Rise court is located in a bustling robot factory, where robots are being assembled as users play.
The new parks are a good addition, but the affiliations system is pretty much unchanged.
Accessibility Is Also a Priority in The City
NBA 2K25 is introducing some features that aim to "make The City more welcoming", for new players.
Developers added "HoloHelp info kiosks" at the front of every game mode location. They will explain how every game mode works for new users, and the recommended users' skill level to try out that mode.
This is yet another way for 2K to make the mode more accessible, which is one of the foundations of NBA 2K25. While not revolutionizing, it's a great addition, as it will help new players and make the learning experience much more smoother.
All of these changes are positive, and while most aren't groundbreaking, they certainly make The City a better game mode and are a ray of hope for the NBA 2K community.
