LATEST - Discordant Sounds & Raid Opportunities

Avengers is getting Spider-Man tomorrow, but there's a lot more on offer if you're playing on another platform. The Discordant Sound raid is the toughest challenge yet and it's coming in the November 30th update to all platforms.

This Raid will offer new Exotic Gear with the Discordant status effect, new perks, and more modifiers in play than ever before.

" Discordant Sound is the ultimate conclusion to the War for Wakanda Expansion and is our toughest content to date. You’ll meet some familiar Wakandan faces coming to aid you, and some new ones vying to take you down."

When does the Spider-Man Hero Event come out?

The Spider-Man Hero Event, "With Great Power", and Spider-Man as a playable character in Marvel's Avengers is due to release on November 30th. At the moment, we don't have a specific time for this - however, we can look to the Avengers game's previous DLC content for guidelines on when to expect the update.

If "With Great Power" is going to launch at the same time as the "War for Wakanda" expansion, we should see it come out at the following times:

  • 08:00 PST - November 30th
  • 11:00 EST - November 30th
  • 16:00 GMT - November 30th

It's worth keeping this information in mind, but taking it with a grain of salt. PlayAvengers should confirm a release schedule closer to the release date. It's also worth keeping in mind that Spider-Man is PlayStation exclusive content - at the moment, anyway.

Why is it a "Hero Event" and not an "Expansion"?

Spider-Man's DLC for Marvel's Avengers is going to release as a Hero Event and not a traditional Expansion. It's the first Hero Event of its kind and could be the start of more-frequent character drops for Square Enix's superhero looter.

A Hero Event is all about the additional playable character as opposed to the narrative and world-building an Expansion can offer. This means that there isn't going to be any new in-game missions for Spider-Man and the "With Great Power" Hero Event.

Instead, there will be a HARM Room training program and a series of Challenges for you to complete. This will be in addition to Spider-Man's Hero Challenge Card and the Discordant Sound Klaw Raid Challenges.

This could be a step in the right direction for fans who want regular, substantial content updates. Expanding the Avengers game's roster could be a fantastic way of filling in the time between huge narrative expansions.

Can Spider-Man do whatever a spider can?

Spider-Man in Marvel's Avengers is going to have a limited move-set, like all the other playable characters, but that doesn't mean he's going to be bad.

His three main abilities are...

  • Spider-Drone - AI-controlled drone that fires webs at enemies;
  • Wrecking Ball - An AoE Damage attack that slams a huge ball of webs down;
  • Web Bomb - AoE Damage with new "Webbed" status effect;

These can, of course, be tweaked and altered with each Skill Upgrade you unlock for him - so there's some wiggle room. In addition to this, his traversal technique is web-slinging and he can wall-run like Captain America and Hawkeye.

It's worth noting that he doesn't seem to be able to wall-crawl and the web-swinging is more in-line with something you'd see in LEGO Marvel Superheroes or Ultimate Alliance 3, not Insomniac's games. This should give you more freedom without the need to worry about specific points to swing from - it suits Marvel's Avengers more when you consider the fact that there are a lot of open environments in this game.
