We have new justification from Crystal Dynamics about their XP Rework coming to Marvel's Avengers.
Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers is releasing on next-gen platforms on March 18th and a cosmetics and XP rework is on the way to help balance the game for an improved experience overall.
In Marvel's Avengers, the XP curve you'd expect to experience in an RPG game is not really much of a curve at all.
On top of this, earning cosmetic items can be pretty random and feel like a waste of effort if you're not going to get the skin you want.
With all this in mind, a few key changes are coming to Marvel's Avengers on March 18th. Here's everything we know.
LATEST - Developers Explanation
In a Reddit post discussing the justification behind increasing the XP curve in Marvel's Avengers, Crystal Dynamics spoke to fans about why they think it was important.
" The problem we were seeing, and hearing, was that you would immediately get more skill points than you had time to review, apply, and get used to, before embarking on your next mission and gaining your next few levels. Hopefully, you can see the issue here."
Currently, they believe that higher level players were still managing to level up between 2-3 times per assignment and this left an uneven levelling pace for players and heroes.
So, they've made the level requirements from Level 25+ higher and made sure tougher enemies drop more XP.
In theory, this should mean that higher-levelled players will level every 2-4 missions. This should give players "more time to engage with and enjoy each skill purchase" too!

XP Rework
Rather than Marvel's Avengers having an XP Curve, it's more of an XP Straight Line.
" This has led to pacing issues, such as skill points currently being rewarded too fast, which may be confusing and overwhelming to newer players. We want each decision to invest in a skill or Heroic to be more meaningful."
Essentially, Square Enix is going to make levelling up your heroes on Marvel's Avengers more of a grind than before. Although this doesn't sound like good news, it should help with balancing and prevent over-levelling.
That being said, the changes are reportedly only going to be implemented from around level 25 and up.

If you're new to the game, it'll still be quite easy to get on your feet and find yourself with a decent-levelled hero by the end of the games' Assemble campaign segments.
Cosmetics Changes
In addition to this, several changes to how cosmetics are earned will be implemented in the March 18th update.
However, these changes require a bit of a step back for the time being...
" The first step of this is to temporarily disable the random cosmetic items drops in preparation for the change."
This won't affect what you already have but will affect the random chance rewards for completing activities and the character progression rewards.
Although the Cosmetics Vendor will have a limited stock during this period between updates, you can find a list of what she will have in stock below:
