We know that the older Rainbow Six games are all traditionally single-player experiences, but it's safe to say that Ubisoft has doubled down on transitioning this into a competitive multiplayer experience with Rainbow Six Siege. With the next Rainbow Six title coming out soon... Will Rainbow Six Extraction follow Siege's new direction for the series or return to the traditional roots of Rainbow Six games.
Here's everything you need to know about whether you can play Rainbow Six Extraction single-player, or whether you need to squad up online like Siege...
Will you be able to play Extraction alone?
If you like Siege, but you have trouble finding a squad to get together with, you'll be pleased to know that Extraction is going to be playable in single-player - however, we're not sure if this is recommended...
Rainbow Six Extraction is being built as a three-player cooperative experience - however, you can jump into the fight alone if you want. There's going to be an offline mode - but you can also play an online game in an empty lobby. At the moment, there's no word on how the difficulty will scale - so it could be quite hard playing alone.
We also don't know if there's going to be any negative effects to progression - we'll endeavour to keep you updated with the latest information when it becomes available.
If you want to play online though, it looks like Rainbow Six Extraction is coming with a "Buddy Pass" that will allow two other players to join you for free for 12 days (this is true on the Epic Games Store, at least!) This hasn't been confirmed for consoles, but it could be on the way - we should learn more about it soon.
Rainbow Six Extraction is going to be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on January 20th, 2022. Keep an eye on Rainbow Six Extraction's social media channels for more information as we continue towards launch.
