Horizon Forbidden West: How to Use Dye & Change Aloy's Appearance

Once again, Aloy is the star of the show in Horizon Forbidden West, even if she narrates puzzles a little too much. While you'll start with a cool looking armor set, you'll grow out of it in no time, needing something more powerful to face the Shellsnappers and Thunderjaws that roam the West. However, just changing how Aloy looks is important, especially if you don't like the color of your current armor. Here's a quick guide on how to us Dye in Horizon Forbidden West and change Aloy's appearance.

How to Change Appearance & Armor

As you've probably worked out, you will change Aloy's appearance whenever you switch armor. The one you start with looks great, but the one that's the most useful to you may not look good.

The armor we used for the majority of the second half of the game is a horrible mix of green and yellow. It's camoflaged, yes, but it's also really ugly.

How to Use Dyes in Horizon Forbidden West

Thankfully, you can change the color of your armor by using Dye you get. You get dye by collectign certain flowers throughout the world or by completing some errands for characters you meet.

Once you have some, you need to head to Gana, who is represtented by a bowl icon and can be found in Plainsong, in the middle of Horizon Forbidden West's map.

Then, all the dye options you have available to you will be shown in a list. Just choose the one you want to equip and ask Gana to do it for you.

Be sure to note the cost, which will always be a selection of flowers and some Metal Shards. You'll then have to spend 25 Metal Shards to change the colour each time, even after you've unlocked and used the dye.
