God of War Ragnarok: Will it be Open World?

PlayStation gamers are set to return to the icy-cold adventures of Kratos and Atreus through Nordic mythology as God of War Ragnarok hits PS4/PS5 consoles later this year.

The sequel to 2018's soft reboot of the franchise, God of War Ragnarok will be continuing that storyline that helped re-establish the IP as an all-time great for the platform.

With a new journey through with Norse gods and across the various realms, however, many gamers are wondering about whether or not the game is an open-world experience. Let's talk about it.

Well, the answer to this is a little complicated if 2018s God of War is to be followed.

God of War Ragnarok is likely to be a semi-open world, letting players explore various different areas between story segments before moving on to another area.

As director Cory Balrog said about the 2018 title in an interview with Gamespot. "It's open, but it is not an open world.", a perfect descriptor of the game's scale, with large open areas that even have fast travel points but the separation of each area stops it from being a true open world that many gamers would expect.

God of War Ragnarok is set to be bigger and better.

This approach gives players the best of both worlds, giving the more open and exploration-focused gameplay for some gamers while also letting people focus on the story more efficiently if that's their preferred approach.

For those wanting a bit more than the previous game, however, the good news is that God of War Ragnarok looks like it will be even bigger than the previous game, with all of the Nine Realms being visited by Kratos and his son Atreus.

The realms featured in the previous game will also be expanded upon and changed, giving players even more of these gorgeous landscapes to explore on their journey.
