The Showdown Series is set to return to FIFA 23 Ultimate Team for a second year running and FUT fans can't wait to see what EA has in store this time around.

EA is set to release daily Showdown SBCs throughout the campaign and we expect more special items to be made available via Objectives too.

Showdown cards are dynamic and rely on real-world footballing fixtures and results to determine their upgrades.

So, find out exactly how Showdown cards work in FUT 23 below, including all the details on the potential upgrades.

How do Showdown cards work?

To start off, two players are selected for Showdown SBCs ahead of a significant upcoming fixture in real-world football, usually pitting two relatively equally matched teams against each other.

The cards are given an original upgrade and the two SBCs are released simultaneously and are made available to unlock for the same length of time, typically expiring just before the selected match kicks off.

FUT players can complete both SBCs if they wish, or they can ‘bet’ on which team they think will win the fixture by choosing to complete just one of the SBCs, in hope of a further upgrade.

Once the SBC expires and the game is played, the Showdown SBC cards receive upgrades based on the result of the fixture.

For the team that wins the fixture, the corresponding Showdown SBC card in-game will receive a +2 OVR upgrade, further boosting the card to new heights, while the card from the team that lost will remain the same rating.

If the fixture results in a draw, then both cards will receive a +1 OVR upgrade.
