Elden Ring: How to respec and change skills

Elden Ring has finally released, giving video game players plenty of fun, frustration, and more. With its multitude of bosses needing to be taken down in a massive open-world for players to explore, there's a myriad of ways to take on the game, and this includes a variety of skills to try.

With that in mind, here's how to respec your character and skills in Elden Ring.

How to respec and change skills in Elden Ring

In order for players to respec and be able to change their skills in Elden Ring, they'll have to first get to the Academy of Raya Lucaria in Liurnia of the Lakes, and beat the main boss of the story there, Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. Rennala is the second main boss of the game.

PEACE: Prepare yourself for the dangerous road ahead in Elden Ring

Defeating the Queen grants players the Great Rune of the Unborn — sidenote, there's no need to activate it at the Divine Tower, players can just have it in their possession to be able to respec.

Following that, players will be able to rest at the Grand Library Site of Grace, here is where they will want to go in order to respec. All they have to do is speak to the NPC there to begin the process, allowing players to rearrange their skills.

But, before being able to do all of the mentioned above, players will be required to bring a Larval Tear to the NPC in order to be able to respec.

Whenever players respec their characters, they'll get back all of the Runes they've invested up to that point and will be able to move them however they so choose.

How to get Larval Tears

Larval Tears can be obtained via item pickups in the open-world as well as strong enemies. They are pretty rare in Elden Ring, and from what's been seen so far, players have the ability to get some early in the game.

While already in the Liurnia of the Lakes for Rennala, there are two Larval Tears that can be obtained by the southwest region. South of the Site of Grace, players can defeat the Giant Crayfish after it transforms into the Grafted Scion.

There's also some at Siofre River and Village of the Albinaurics. At Siofre River, they can be purchased from the Abandoned Vendor for 3,000 Runes. As for the Village of the Albinaurics, Pass through the poison-filled area near the lake in Liurnia, after that a road will appear in which players can follow until they discover a crypt. Within the crypt, there will be enemies to slay which drop a Larval Tear.
