Cyberpunk 2077: Refunds Aren't Guaranteed - Sony, Microsoft, CD Projekt Red, PS4, Xbox One & more

According to an open letter from CD Project Red posted on 14 December, Cyberpunk 2077 refund requests will be granted for players having technical issues. But since then, it seems this isn't the case.

There have been reports of Sony and Microsoft both denying Cyberpunk 2077 refund requests for digital editions, and it seems CD Projekt Red is pulling back some from its original offer.

So can Cyberpunk 2077 players get a refund or not?

Cyberpunk 2077 Issues

Cyberpunk 2077 has been a whirlwind since launch day - and while it has some very impressive features, players have reported massive issues, mostly concentrated on current-gen consoles PS4 and Xbox One.

So it seems for players that endured through the technical issues CD Projekt Red admitted to in their open letter, a refund is out of the question due to played time.

In fact, it seems players looking for a refund on PS4 would have to have bought the game in the last 14 days, and never actually downloaded the game to get a refund from Sony.

This seems to be a massive misrepresentation from CD Projekt Red, who painted a picture that console gamers who suffered through errors would be able to get their money back.

CD Projekt Red on Refund Issues

Players looking to get the refund CD Projekt Red has permitted will be surprised to see the company seem to back up from their original letter.

INCOMPLETE: Many players feel Cyberpunk 2077 is incomplete on current gen consoles

A recent statement from CD Projekt Red SVP Michal Nowakowski reads:

"Anyone who has purchased any title on the PlayStation network or the Microsoft storefront can ask for a refund, and if it’s made within certain boundaries, usually related to time, usage and so on, can ask for that refund. Our procedure here with Microsoft and Sony is not different than with any other title released on any of those storefronts. I want to state that clearly, as there seem to be certain misconceptions."

This reiterates that there are no special refund request rules in place for Cyberpunk 2077 - and while this seems fine on the surface, it clearly goes against the messaging in the company's open letter. After all, the letter clearly isn't addressing players who have never actually downloaded Cyberpunk 2077, despite this being an important factor in Sony's refund policy.

Public Fallout

Despite plenty of positive coming from players of Cyberpunk 2077, if CD Projekt Red was trying to sidestep negative feedback with their open letter on refund requests, it seems to have achieved the opposite in time.
