Can you play Rainbow Six Extraction in Split Screen?

Rainbow Six Extraction is out now and we are big fans of everything the game does for both solo and co-op players. There's no doubt, however, that the game is certainly geared towards groups of three.

So, how does developer Ubisoft ensure that it's as simple as possible to jump into co-op matches? Is split-screen possible or is the game restricted to just online matchmaking or friend invites?

Is Rainbow Six Extraction Playable In Split Screen?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to play Rainbow Six Extraction in split-screen or via couch co-op. This might seem like an oversight by the developer but that would be unfair. The game is certainly a co-op tailored experience but that doesn't mean that split screen must be included.

Anyone who has played the game probably could tell you that split screen play might be a massive disadvantage. Screen real estate is a big part of Rainbow Six Extraction and giving up half of your screen to share it with someone else might produce problems rather than making the game easier to play.

Chances are, you would need to engage in online matchmaking to fill a full squad of three anyway so to have a lobby of two local players and one online could also make communication a nightmare.

We're sure that Ubisoft considered split screen play but decided against it thanks to the ultimate ease and simplicity around online play. More players than ever have access to internet connections as well as the required Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus subscriptions.
