With Subnautica Below Zero now out everywhere, you're probably thinking of ways to expand your experience.

Luckily, mods are the best way of prolonging the shelf life of an already big game. This is a list of the best mods currently available.

Best Subnautica Below Zero Mods (May 2021)

Mods will likely only get bigger and more adventurous in the future so this will just be what puts your head into the water, it won't take you to the depths. Before going in, make sure to get the QMODMANAGER 4, it's needed.

Snap Builder

Building in survival games has always been a bit hit or miss. While it never quite sits right in the likes of Valheim, Minecraft offers an intuitive and easy block-based system. Snap Builder tries to move it from the former to the latter and does a really great job at it.

Boot it up with the QMODMANAGER and it will automatically work in your game. You can toggle it on and off at will with the middle button on your mouse and you can bind your keyboard to give it a more fine-tuned approach. If you just want a nice easy building system, this is the mod for you.

Easy Craft

Although crafting is central to the learning process behind Subnautica, when you're hundreds of hours in, it starts to lose its charm. This is where Easy Craft comes in.

Easy Craft, as the name suggests, makes crafting easier. It does so by automatically using material from nearby storage to complete your blueprints. You don't have to hold onto your items, making storage and crafting a less tedious process. This is a very small mod but it changes the moment to moment gameplay a surprising amount.

Map

MAP is a simple but effective mod for Below Zero. It gives your character a map to help them explore the depths of the ocean a little better.

One of the best things about this mod is how well it fits into the universe. From how it looks to how it acts, the map feels wholly part of Subnautica.

You actually have to explore areas to have them show up and you can ping things to come back at a later date. This is a mod that feels like it's part of the base experience.

More Quick Slots

Like the last once, this is a small mod that means a lot for the base experience. Who wouldn't like to have access to more of their tools?

As you might assume, More Quick Slots adds more quick slots to the bottom of the screen. Allowing you to use the full range of numbers plus two more, this means you can assign more tools for easy use out in the water.

No Shiny For You

No Shiny For You is used exclusively on those pesky sea monkeys. It simply stops them from taking your tools.

This mostly got into the list because of the funniness of the situation. A modder did this to their game because they were so annoyed at having their flashlight stolen. I must admit, it's pretty nice to go down there with one less fear.
