Much emphasis is placed on youth in the modern era, however these over 40s will be on FIFA 19 Career Mode and have something to offer whether it be as a reserve or starter. Despite their relatively short shelf life, these older players are often available on the cheap if they are not retiring therefore lower league managers should take a look at the following list.
For a full list of all the oldest players in FIFA 19, please look at the table at the bottom of this page.
Oscar Perez (OVR 71)
Age: 45Position: GKClub: PachucaCountry: MexicoBest Stats: 85 Jumping, 74 GK Reflexes, 73 GK PositioningCost: £239,000 (release clause)Wage: £8,000
Mexican goalkeeper Oscar Perez has made well over 150 appearances for current club Pachuca having been on loan from Cruz Azul since 2013 although Pachuca is his permanent club on FIFA 19. Perez has been a part of two Mexican World Cup squads in 2002 and 2010 and has played 57 times for his country.
The veteran needs his high jumping rating of 85 as he stands at just 5’8” making him the joint shortest goalkeeper in the game. His 71 OVR is available for £239,000 per his release clause but lesser clubs may need to negotiate him down from his £8,000 wages in Career Mode.
Kevin Pilkington (OVR 48)
Age: 44Position: GKClub: Cambridge UnitedCountry: EnglandBest Stats: 56 Composure, 49 GK Positioning, 48 GK HandlingCost: FreeWage: £880
Experienced goalkeeper Kevin Pilkington began his career at Manchester United before going on to appear for numerous league clubs including Mansfield Town and Notts County where he enjoyed his most successful period. 44-year-old Pilkington is also the goalkeeping coach at Cambridge United this season.
Pilkington is unlikely to be on many managers transfer lists in Career Mode with just a 48 OVR, however he does offer a cheap reserve option with just £880 wages. He is likely to be available on a free although he has only just joined Cambridge so will not be available in the first transfer window.
Seigo Narazaki (OVR 65)
Age: 42Position: GKClub: Nagoya GrampusCountry: JapanBest Stats: 67 GK Positioning, 65 Jumping, 65 StrengthCost: £44,000 (release clause)Wage: £1,000
With over 700 appearances across his professional career, Japanese goalkeeper Seigo Narazaki is a vastly experienced man between the sticks. Having represented Japan for 12 years, Narazaki has also been playing for Nagoya Grampus since 1999 and has become a club legend.
With a 65 OVR Narazaki is still capable of performing for any lower league club although his attributes will decrease due to his age. Any manager looking for a cheap GK option should look at the Japanese shot-stopper as his release clause is just £44,000 and his wages will not break the bank either.
Benjamin Nivet (OVR 72)
Age: 41Position: CAMClub: ES Troyes ACCountry: FranceBest Stats: 83 Vision, 82 GK Composure, 77 Short PassingCost: FreeWage: £4,000
Attacking midfielder Benjamin Nivet is the oldest outfield player on FIFA 19 Career Mode and with a 72 OVR he still has something to offer. The 41-year-old scored two goals in 16 appearances last year as ES Troyes AC struggled in Ligue 1 resulting in their relegation.
Nivet’s contract is up at the end of the season and is unlikely to be available to sign. However, any manager looking for a cheap midfield option should look at Nivet as he offers good stats on the ball such as his 77 short passing and ball control. One downside is the midfielder is extremely slow with just 40 pace.
Hussain Omar Sulaimani (OVR 63)
Age: 41Position: LBClub: Ohod ClubCountry: Saudi ArabiaBest Stats: 92 Aggression, 72 Strength, 71 CrossingCost: FreeWage: £2,000
41-year-old left back Hussein Sulaimani is the second oldest outfield player in FIFA 19 Career Mode, 19 days younger than midfielder Nivet. The Saudi Arabian defender boasts over 130 caps for his country, scoring five goals throughout his international career.
Sulaimani has recently joined Ohod Club and so will not be available in the first transfer window. The left-backs contract is up at the end of the season too and it is likely he will retire, however he may be available for free if negotiated well and is a solid defender with decent 71 crossing ability.
Mark Tyler (OVR 61)
Age: 41Position: GKClub: PeterboroughCountry: EnglandBest Stats: 65 GK Positioning, 64 GK Diving, 58 GK ReflexesCost: £31,000 (release clause)Wage: £968
Mark Tyler is another goalkeeper who acts as goalkeeping coach too having made his move to Peterborough following a successful loan spell in 2016. Tyler’s squad role sees his play time limited, and he has managed just three appearances in his two full seasons for The Posh.
Any manager looking for a solid reserve goalkeeper for a lesser club should look no further than Tyler. His 61 overall includes solid positioning and diving stats and with just a £31,000 release clause and £968 wages he will be easily affordable for any club.
Cristian Munoz (OVR 68)
Age: 41Position: GKClub: CD Universidad de ConcepcionCountry: ArgentinaBest Stats: 73 Jumping, 71 GK Positioning, 68 GK ReflexesCost: £71,000 (release clause)Wage: £1,000
Argentine goalkeeper Cristian Munoz has been plying his trade in Chile since 2005 following his move to Huachipato from Boca Juniors. The 41-year-old is still the number one at his current side Universidad de Concepcion who sit in second place as the Chilean league reaches is final stages with just seven league games left.
Former Argentina under-20 international Munoz is a reliable and affordable option for managers on a budget in FIFA 19 Career Mode. With a £71,000 release clause, he is certainly affordable although his contract is up at the end of the Chilean season and he may retire before you can sign him.
Justo Villar (OVR 77)
Age: 41Position: GKClub: Free AgentCountry: ParaguayBest Stats: 78 GK Positioning, 77 GK Reflexes, 75 GK HandlingCost: FreeWage: N/A
Justo Villar announced his retirement at the end of last season and is without a club. He played an international friendly as recently as June for his native Paraguay in a 4-2 defeat to Japan, but his future involvement remains in doubt.
It is unclear how long veteran goalkeeper Villar will be on FIFA following his retirement but for now he is an excellent GK option. Available on a free as he has no club, the Paraguayan is a solid all-round goalkeeper with his GK stats all above 74 and an overall of 77.
Gianluigi Buffon (OVR 88)
Age: 40Position: GKClub: Paris Saint-GermainCountry: ItalyBest Stats: 90 GK Positioning, 88 GK Diving, 87 GK HandlingCost: £6,500,000 (release clause)Wage: £73,000
Legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is the undisputed ‘Golden Oldie’ of FIFA 19. Not only is the Italian hero one of the oldest players on the game, he is still one of the very best goalkeepers too! He has kept two clean sheets in his first four games for new club PSG as the French giants look to add more silverware to their cabinet.
Buffon is only on a one-year contract and having just signed for PSG it is unlikely he will be available to sign on Career Mode. His £6,500,000 release clause will not put many managers off as his 88 OVR will make him the number one choice at the majority of clubs on FIFA 19.
Hilton (OVR 78)
Age: 41Position: CBClub: MontpellierCountry: BrazilBest Stats: 83 Marking, 79 Jumping, 79 InterceptionsCost: FreeWage: £16,000
41-year-old central defender Hilton has played every minute of Montpellier’s season so far and has captained them to a five-match unbeaten run. Hilton made over two interceptions per game last season as Montpellier finished fourth in Ligue 1 in 2017/18.
The majority of managers on FIFA 19 Career Mode will be put off by Hilton’s 36 pace. His contract is up at the end of the season but managers may be able to sign him on a free, if so they will receive a solid centre back who offers an attacking threat with 79 jumping and heading accuracy despite his 5’11” stature.
