Blizzard’s next Triple-A title is set to be Overwatch 2, and with a massive fan base pouring in from the first game, it will be interesting to see how they react to the new gameplay features.
The upcoming game will differ from the last in a number of ways, most notably with its increased focus on a story-based experience.
This will be very exciting for hardcore fans of the game's lore, but for those there just for the gameplay, this may feel slightly more terrestrial.
Larger Maps
In a recent interview with Overwatch 2 lead writer, Michael Chu, the representative expanded a little on the team's ambitions for PvE play.

According to Keller, its PvE maps will be "2 times larger than regular Overwatch maps".

This is all being done to facilitate the telling of the story in the Overwatch world.
Keller also revealed that the new co-op story missions will allow for “a more traditional way to tell a story in the Overwatch universe.”
A story which will have a "beginning, middle, and end".
Missions
Hero Missions will follow the Overwatch team as they travel the globe, defending cities against robot invasions and battling the forces laying siege on the planet.
PLAY YOUR WAY: Customize your abilities to suit your playstyle!
This mode will be "highly-replayable" and will allow players to level up their favourite heroes.

Players will earn powerful customization options that supercharge their abilities in co-op.
An example of this would be altering Reinhardt’s Fire Strike to ignite nearby enemies.
PvP and PvE
It has been stated that PvP is still a focus for the team, and progression in PvP will be "entirely separate" from PvE.
KEEP YOUR GUARD UP: Dark forces will be lurking around all corners
Keller says that they "don’t want gameplay changing talents and abilities to give an unfair advantage in PvP."
"We’re still exploring what players can earn in PvE and building out the progression system for that."

The overall goal is to make a robust, meaningful progression system that feeds into the Hero Missions.
This will allow gamers to play for many hours, or to use it as their main mode of play after they complete the narrative.
