Hogwarts Legacy - How to choose your house

Choosing a house is the first choice you'll be faced with after arriving at the school and entering the sorting ceremony. The sorting hat will pose you a question with 4 answers, and the one you choose will influence its recommendation:

  • Ambition – Slytherin
  • Loyalty – Hufflepuff
  • Curiosity – Ravenclaw
  • Daring – Gryffindor

This will decide which house the sorting hat recommends that you choose for your Hogwarts Legacy Story. However, you can simply select your house afterwards, and the decision is entirely yours.

Does your house change your story?

While your choice of house in Hogwarts Legacy will slightly affect your experience of the game, the actual differences are almost entirely aesthetic. Your common room and the companions you'll interact with there are different, but you'll be able to talk to everyone regardless of house.

The only key difference is the exclusive house quest:

  • Gryffindor students will embark on The Hunt for the Missing Pages, where you'll meet Nearly Headless Nick and join the Headless Hunt.
  • Ravenclaw students start the hunt for Ollivander's Heirloom, where you'll investigate The Owlery.
  • Slytherin students will become Scrope's Last Hope, which includes Following a series of map clues to meet Headmaster Black's House Elf and find a secret grotto.
  • Hufflepuff students seek out a Prisoner of Love, including a trip to the infamous Azkaban Prison to solve a murder mystery.

Hufflepuff students are the only house to visit a location you can't otherwise in Hogwarts Legacy, but this is only for one cutscene, and you won't be able to explore Azkaban.

The upshot is that you're free to choose your house, based on whichever aesthetic takes your fancy. You'll be able to experience the game just as well regardless.
