Final Fantasy XVI was revealed earlier this year during the Playstation 5 showcase event.
This will be the first Final Fantasy game to release on the next-generation of consoles.
LATEST - Final Fantasy XVI receives a trailer and a rough release date!
Final Fantasy XVI is expected to launch in the summer of 2023.
In PlayStation's May 2nd State of Play, Square Enix revealed more information on Final Fantasy XVI's release date after revealing more footage on the game.
Ready for Next Gen
The award winning series has had huge success on the current-generation of platforms and it will likely be the same when it makes the move to next-gen.
Final Fantasy XV sold over 5 million copies in its first 24 hours, making the game break even on development costs.
Final Fantasy VII Remake sold over 3.5 million copies in its first 3 days.
After the huge success of both Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII Remake it was only a matter of time before a new title was revealed.

During September's Playstation 5 event a reveal trailer for FF XVI was shown and it looked a lot different than expected.
With the success of games such as The Witcher 3, as well as TV shows like Game Of Thrones, Square-Enix has taken inspiration and has a Western Medieval vibe to it.
Of course the soldiers ride around on Chocobos rather than horses, it is Final Fantasy after all.
In a recent blog post by Sony, they revealed a lot of new information regarding the characters and world of Final Fantasy XVI.
The World
Final Fantasy XVI will take place in Valisthea. A land full of mountains of crystals called Mothercrystals.
The Mothercrystals tower over the realms, blessing them with aether.
As with anything that benefits from human race in some way, countless wars have been fought over the Mothercrystals.
Nations such as the Grand Duchy of Rosaria, the Holy Empire of Sanbreque, the Kingdom of Waloed, the Dhalmekian Republic, and the Iron Kingdom have all fought over these Mothercrystals.
From what was shown in September's trailer, the world has a Game Of Thrones and The Witcher vibe to it.
It seems Square-Enix has taken inspiration from both franchises.
The Witcher 3 sold over 28 million copies worldwide, and the final Game Of Thrones season was viewed by an average of 11.99 million viewers in the US.
The Characters
In the same blog post the three main characters for the game were revealed.
The main protagonist of the game is called Clive Rosfield, he is the firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria.
Clive is a Shield who protects his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix.
Joshua Rosfield has the ability to transform into the Phoenix, which he uses to fight alongside his brother.
Finally is Jill Warrick, while not related to Clive and Joshua, she spent her childhood years as member of the Rosfield household.
The Summons
Summons have always been a big part of the Final Fantasy series.
However, in Final Fantasy XVI they are now known as "Eikons".
Eikons can be summoned by the Dominants and are the most destructive creatures in Valisthea.
The confirmed Eikons so far are Phoenix, Titan, Shiva, and Ifrit.
With Joshua being the only character of the 3 to able to use Eikons, it is very likely that more characters will be revealed at a later date.
Looking To The Future
Square-Enix also revealed that there won't be another big announcement regarding the game until sometime in 2021, so I wouldn't expect the game to be releasing anytime soon.
There is still speculation as to when the next part of Final Fantasy VII Remake will release.
FF7R was released on Playstation back in April 2020 was just part 1 of the game.
Part 1 detailed the events that took place in Midgar.
The original Final Fantasy VII shipped on 3 discs on the Playstation 1.
The Midgar section was just the first 4-5 hours on disc 1.
That leaves a lot of the original story still to be told.

So far, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a Playstation 4 exclusive, but is rumoured to be a timed exclusive for 1 year.
This would mean that the game could release on Xbox and PC from April 2021.
It is also believed that Final Fantasy XVI will be a timed exclusive too.
