After initially announcing the game in 2021, the Dead Space remake is now pushing for a 2023 release according to a report by Venture Beat's Jeff Grubb.
Dead Space remake reportedly pushing for a 2023 release
According to the report, "Electronic Arts is now internally targeting an early 2023 release for its upcoming Dead Space remake." This comes after the company was initially considering a release timeframe of October 2022 but never announced it publicly.
As a sci-fi horror survival game, Dead Space was an Electric Arts (EA) staple but as time went on, the publisher moved away from both it and single-player action adventures alike. This was done in favor of games that could support microtransactions that even affected the franchise's third installment, Dead Space 3 to much of the fans' dismay.
EA and developer Motive, are set to reveal more information during its Dead Space remake stream that is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 11, 2022.
The stream, according to Motive, will be offering fans "early looks at development and what goes into the remake of a game."
Additionally to announcing the live stream, Motive's Twitter account on Monday, March 7, also shared a one-minute-long trailer on YouTube that teases the announcement and is set in preparation for the stream. The clip showcases some familiar sound effects that players of the Dead Space franchise know and perhaps may not love, a splicer, and a brief look at the game's protagonist, Isaac Clarke.
As far as we know, the upcoming game will be a full remake of the 2008 survival horror title and is meant to give another look to the franchise. Motive Studios confirmed that they will utilize the Frostbite engine to develop the game. The Frostbite engine can be seen in two of EA's titles, namely the recent Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront games.
In an official press release, EA Motive senior producer, Phillippe Ducharme stated that this remake will be an attempt to "modernize" the game for current platforms, with the hope to reinvigorate the series for both old and new players alike.
"The Dead Space franchise made a huge impact on the survival horror genre when it was released 12 years ago, and I came to Motive as a fan first to specifically work on this game," he said. "We have a passionate team at Motive who are approaching this remake as a love letter to the franchise. Going back to the original and having the opportunity to do so on next gen consoles excited everyone on the team. As we look to modernize the game, we've reached out to dedicated fans."
