League of Legends can be difficult to keep up with. With metas that shift often and two updates a month, there's plenty to get used to quickly.
One way to get on top of all of it is by utilizing the League of Legends PBE, a server that allows players to test new patches before they go live.
With that in mind, here's our guide on how to sign up for the LoL PBE and get started.
What is the League of Legends PBE Server?
Standing for Public Beta Environment, the LoL PBE is another server apart from the normal live League servers in which Riot releases all of the new updates prior to them being set in stone.
This is done so players can test whatever new feature or update is added. Here, players can catch bugs, give feedback, or maybe even give praise to the Riot developers for changes they might like.
Additionally, due to it being a separate entity from the regular League servers, the PBE servers have an extra set of rules that don't necessarily apply to the live servers.

How to Create a LoL PBE Account
Prior to hopping into the PBE, you first have to check if you're eligible. In other words, you have to qualify to join League's testing servers.
This means that if you've been banned or have had chat restrictions in the past, your chances of getting in aren't looking too pretty. Additionally, you'll need to have at least honor level three.
Here's how you can check if you've met the requirements:
- Go to the PBE signup page and click "Log In" to sign in to your Riot Games account, or, alternatively, click on "Check My Eligibility" if you're already signed in. It's worth noting that the page can be "finicky," in that case, keep trying until it works.
- Once you've logged in and checked your eligibility the page will refresh and you'll find out if you're eligible or not.
- If eligible you can move on to the next step which is making an account. Like any other account creation, you'll be asked to provide a username and a password.
- That's it! You'll then be prompted to perform the next step which we'll explain below.

How to Download the LoL PBE
After you've been proven to be an eligible Summoner to join the PBE, the signup page will refresh once again giving you the option to download the PBE client.
As opposed to being on the same server as the standard game, the PBE uses a different set of servers. This means that you'll have to download a completely new client to get testing.
Once you've done all the fancy stuff in the list above you'll be able to download the PBE client following the steps below:
- On the same page where you performed all of the above steps, you'll see two direct download links, for one Windows and one for Mac.
- Once you've downloaded the client, a new icon titled "League of Legends PBE" should come up on your computer. Just like regular League, click on it and log in—and make sure you're using the new account info you just created!
- Follow this all up by clicking the arrow next to the "Play" button and select League of Legends PBE from the menu.
- Make sure it's all up to date by letting it install updates (This will be a recurring theme once a new update goes through)
From there, players will be able to test out new patch changes, skins, and even champions before they touch Summoner's Rift on the live servers.
