Riot Updates Games Modes Team: Everything We Know in 2022

Riot brings out a different game mode every patch in League of Legends. Cycling between a select few, fans have been disappointed with the lack of variety. But Riot are addressing this by possibly bringing some new game modes and changing the focus in their Games Modes team.

Classics such as Doom Bots of Doom featuring an oversized Teemo, or Odyssey Extraction, the wave-based PVE are sorely missed by the community due to the new and exciting gameplay they brought.

Unfortunately, Ryan "Reav3" Mirales stated that the game mode was a once in a lifetime thing with “[I] can’t say anything for certain but likely not,”. But perhaps these new game modes will provide the next up and coming Odyssey.

How do we know?

A Reddit post made by the product lead of events, Ken Adams, stated that they "hear the sentiment about game modes" and are "rebuilding our Modes team with a focus on making our Modes easier to ship and unlocking our ability to create more fresh experiences".

Adams also stated that they are working on some ARAM updates as well. The post was created five days ago which means these potential new game modes could be released very soon.

Where do we go from here?

Ken Adams stated how excited his team are for "some super promising ideas". So although there is no schedule or timeframe, the developers are working hard to invigorate their game modes to keep the game fresh.

With the new champion Bel'Veth out now, perhaps a void themed game mode is in the works. This is pure speculation but the concept of using void portals in a map sounds really exciting.

This exciting development may lead to the re-introduction of an Odyssey style game mode which will excite both long term and newer League of Legends fans. The next thing to do? Wait.
