When a game like Fortnite has been dominating a certain genre for so long, they like to mix things up every once in a while. In this case, Fortnite asking you to deal damage with a melee weapon for a quest is strange because they mean something completely different!
Here's how to deal damage with a melee weapon in Fortnite Season 8.
What is a Melee Weapon in Fortnite?
When Fortnite asks you to deal damage with a melee weapon, it's just asking you to use your pickaxe/harvesting tool. It's puzzling that they wouldn't word the quest like this as they do it for Dusk's final NPC quest. THere you are asked to deal damage to a downed enemy with your harvesting tool.
So, for the latest quest, being asked to use a melee weapon, which is a more generic term, has left players confused. Could it be a hint that other melee weapons are returning to the game? In the past, other melee weapons have appeared but currently, the pickaxe/harvesting tool is the only option.
Dire's NPC Quests
If you're looking for the quest that this confusion has been caused by, you'll need to start Dire's NPC Punchard. He can be tricky to find as he's roaming around the small island off the coast of Catty Corner. This is located to the far South-East of the Fortnite map.
The tricky quest is the second one on his punchcard. If you're looking for all of his quests, we've got those for you too!
- Emote at the Weather Station, Forte Crumpet or Lockie's Lighthouse
- Damage wildlife with a melee weapon
- Destroy a dumpster at Lazy Lake or Pleasant Park
- Eliminate Cuber Monsters in The Sideways with a melee weapon
- Travel on foot in Misty Meadows
All of his quests are worth 30,000 XP after the recent changes were made to buff rewards.
