Dynamic weather effects are finally coming to Fortnite - but not all is what it seems. Tornados and lightning storms are popping up across Fortnite Island and we have everything you need to know about how you can find these wild weather effects and what you need to know if you want to be struck by lightning.
How to find Storms in Fortnite
If you want to find a storm in Fortnite, you're going to need to keep on your toes and keep your eyes peeled.
Tornados will start to spawn with swirling wind in the sky and lightning storms will start to spawn when darker clouds gather overhead. Tornados can be a great way to get some distance between you and your current location and lightning storms can offer some interesting boosts - but we'll discuss those below.
" If you see a tornado start to form, that’s no signal to flee. Instead, run into it as a swirling escape strategy! You’ll spin round and round ‘til you choose to glide to safety — or if you stay spinning long enough — ‘til the twister spits you out. Don’t worry: you won’t take fall damage if you get hurled."
How to get hit by a Lightning Strike
If you want to be struck by Lightning, you need to head to the nearest body of water - or the highest point - under the developing lightning storm. This will increase your chance of being struck by lightning.
Once you get hit with this, you should find yourself taking a small amount of damage - however, this will give you a speed boost.
It's worth noting that this can only happen once every so often, though. Epic Games hasn't given us a specific time frame, but they've shared the following:
" Lightning doesn’t strike twice back-to-back — once you’ve been struck, lightning won’t strike you again right after."
From now until January 17th at 09:00 EST / 14:00 GMT, Tornados will spawn at a higher rate for Tornado Week. This should increase your chances of seeing them over a lightning storm.
