Following months of anticipation from fans and non-fans alike, Bungie has revealed the release date for the next Destiny 2 expansion, Lightfall via the latest Destiny 2 Showcase.
Lightfall will be the conclusion of Destiny 2's Light and Dark saga and will take players to a previously unknown city in order to fight off against the mastermind behind it all, The Witness, who was introduced via the expansion's reveal trailer.
With the Witch Queen expansion done and dusted, it's time to move forward to Lightfall.
Destiny 2 Lightfall Release Date
The final showdown between Light and Darkness, Lightfall, is here and it will release on Tuesday, February 28, 2022.
This will be the conclusion of the saga as Guardians have finally found out who the mastermind behind it all actually is, The Witness. He along with his newfound and newly empowered disciple, Calus, and his new army will look to bring doom to the world.
The expansion will take players to the planet of Neptune, where they will find the previously unknown city of Neo Luna. Neptune's capital city is something brand-new never before seen in Destiny 2; it's a giant, pristine metropolis ripe for discovery.
Within Neo Luna and, overall, Neptune, Guardians will also encounter the Cloudstriders, who like them, are sworn protectors of their people. However, as opposed to choosing their path and sticking to it, they are chosen. If deemed worthy, they can protect their people.
Lastly, Guardians will be able to utilize this newfound power, Strand. This mysterious green energy is the Guardians' ability to harness the Darkness' power, discovering it and making it their own to use against Calus and his Shadow Legion.
It's worth noting that Lightfall will not be the final expansion of Destiny 2 as it'll be followed up by The Final Shape in 2023.
