Activision has announced that a mobile version of Call of Duty: Warzone is in development.
"We are creating an all-new, AAA mobile experience that will bring the thrilling, fluid, and large-scale action of Call of Duty: Warzone to players on the go," stated Activision in a blog post on the official Call of Duty website.
Call of Duty: Warzone to go to mobile
In the same post, Activision explained that they are currently looking for members to join the company in order to work on the game.
"Join our growing, award-winning team of mobile veterans on this ambitious mission. We are seeking more top tier operators in all aspects of mobile game development. This large-scale, multiplayer experience is being built natively for mobile with cutting-edge technology designed to entertain gamers around the world for many years to come."
"From production roles to engineering, design, art, marketing, and more, we’re looking for skilled game-makers, passionate fans, and genuinely awesome people to join our diverse team, inspired to deliver the next world-class mobile gaming experience to fans."
This wouldn't be the company's first time moving into the mobile market as they did so already with the Call of Duty franchise, aptly named Call of Duty: Mobile.
Since then, Call of Duty: Mobile has been massively successful in porting the game over to mobile platforms as well iterating on it, keeping it fresh.
The news shouldn't come as a surprise as according to known Call of Duty and video games leaker, Tom Henderson, explained in a Tweet back in December of 2021 that the company sent out a survey asking Call of Duty: Mobile players if they'd like to see Verdannsk come to the handheld Call of Duty game.
Since then, Verdansk has been replaced with the new Caldera map with Warzone's Pacific update, which means players will be most likely exploring the Pacific Island when the mobile version of Warzone comes out.
Additionally, looking at Call of Duty: Mobile's scale, which features characters, weapons, and maps from across the history of Call of Duty Multiplayer, Warzone players can more than likely expect the same to come to the Battle Royale's mobile version.
As for a release date, it's difficult to surmise, but if any of Activision's past work with Call of Duty titles is any indication, players can possibly expect Warzone to come to mobile as soon as 2022.
