If you're just diving into WWE 2K22 and still getting accustomed to the new controls, it may take some time to find the right timing for the new combos system.
In this WWE 2K22 Combos Guide, we've got details on how to deliver all the different types of combos in matches when you need them most.
WWE 2K22 Combos Guide: How to do Light, Heavy, and Grapple Combos
If you're still getting used to the WWE 2K22 Controls, don't be afraid to spend some time in the game's tutorial which will give you a good overview of things going in.
However, even with that it can be challenging to make WWE 2K22 Combos work for you in a match when things are on the line.
This is especially true if you're in the 2K Showcase, which is an Objective Based game mode and often tasks you with completing a specific type of combo.
One good thing to keep in mind is that every type of combo will always begin with a Light Attack using X or Square, but it's the buttons you press after that which will determine how that combo diverges and what final move you deliver.
The timing itself can be tricky, and you'll want to be careful not to button mash too quickly, as it can take a moment for the previous strike to hit and recognize the proper input for your next step in that combo.
Light Combos end with a Light Attack (X or Square), Heavy Combos end with a Heavy Attack (A or X), and Grapple Combos or Grab Combos end with a Grab (B or Circle).
While the moves themselves change for every competitor in the game, with over 100 different combo sequence groupings built into the title, what's important is that the button presses themselves don't.
All combo sequences are grouped as having either four buttons to finish them out or three, with high flyers and strikers often having the more complicated combos and more traditional powerhouse competitors more likely to have the three move combos.
You can see the three-button sequences in the image above, and the four-button sequences can be seen further up in the other photo. Each of these show the combos when you check from the Pause Menu during an active match.
You'll can also notice the "Neutral" category, and that's because all superstars have three different sets of combos based on whether you have the Left Stick pointing Towards Your Opponent, Away From Your Opponent, or Neutral when making the first Light Attack that starts the combo.
How to Block Combos in WWE 2K22
While part of your experience in WWE 2K22 will be using combos on your opponents, you'll also have to fend them off when being used on you.
The standard Reversal button (Y or Triangle) will work for most attacks, but specifically combos will challenge you to predict the next move that's coming and press the same button.
If you can do this successfully, it will trigger a Breaker and force a reversal that gives you the immediate advantage in the match.
In general, go with the odds and try to use X or Square most often to trigger a Breaker on Light Attacks while mixing in the others depending on how frequently your opponent seems to be using them.
How to Preview Combos in the Creation Suite
If you're editing your character's moveset or trying to create a custom moveset either in the Creation Suite or for your MyRISE character, one of the challenges will be choosing your combos.
One of the challenges is that when scrolling through the list of potential combos, they're simply given a label and watching the full preview would require watching every single combo done sequentially.
That can unfortunately make the process drag on, but you can get a better glimpse by choosing a given combo and then viewing the list on the previous screen like seen below.
It may take time to find the combos that you enjoy and work for you, but the biggest factor to remember is that 4X combos have the four-button sequences and 3X combos have the three-button sequences and as a result have less moves overall.
You can press the Left Stick to enter Practice Play, but this will still require executing the different combos to see if you like the way they end and if they feel right for you.
Take your time if you really wanna browse, but don't feel obligated to. The WWE 2K22 combos are all relatively solid, and there's no harm in picking a few from a superstar whose style fits yours and rolling with that.
